It's the left hand. Long ago, they believed the ring finger on the left hand's vein/ artery was connected right to the heart. If you want others to know that you are engaged, then wear it on the left. besides, your fiancee might be offended.

LEFT hand only. Right hand is not acceptable because it is designed for the left hand. Also no one will know you are engaged if you wear it on the right hand. Now if you do not have a left hand (missing hand or arm from an accident) then yes you can wear it on the right hand, but that is the only exception.

It doesn't really matter. Of course, there is tradition and some people really think it means something, but the meaning is what you make it. Personally, I don't even wear an engagement ring. I think it's so silly! A shiny trinket has no comparison to how much I love and am commited to that man and I should hope that he feels the same way. :)

As for other people knowing I'm in a commited relationship, I have no problem telling them so! In fact, my love actually wore a wedding band on his left hand when we met (for other sentimental purposes as he's never been married) but I never even noticed for quite some time, so a wedding ring isn't going to stop anyone from 'making their move'

The left hand is traditional since it originated with Egyptians and Romans. But it is by no means required. People break tradition everyday with no repercussions involved. You can put the rings on your right hand if you prefer. No one is holding a gun to your head saying you must do this or that. However you may need to get the rings sized for your right hand instead as people rarely have the same size fingers on both hands.

Most people keep on the left but if you want to wear your wedding band on the left and switch your engagement ring to the left...... I do it at work sometimes when it's getting in the way because I am left handed.

Traditionally your engagement and wedding bands are worn on the left hand since the ring finger according to legend is a heart line and goes directly to the heart.

Third finger left hand is the custom, to let other men know that you are involved. Nothing is carved in stone, but following the custom will save you and possibly some young men a bit of embarrassment, as well as puzzling your fiance? Best wishes Wedding ring on right hand usually signifies divorce.
