My boyfriends best friend is a girl who he used to date, but they've been friends for 9 years now. She's not really that concerned about him but he's stuck on her. I suppose my real problem is that he cares so much for someone besides me who is female. One day he started talking about marrage and I replied annoyed "I thought you were supposed to marry your best friend." and this led into a long discussion. The only outcome that we came up with is: I don't like his friend, and don't want to hang out with them. And that if he chooses not to hang out with her and her fiance that he can't blame that on me. Should I handle this situation like a regular best friend? And am I wrong for treating the situation differently because she's female? Normally if I didn't like my boyfriend's best friend it was no big deal. They would hang out without me and my feelings weren't hurt, but now they are.

truthfully, you have to deal with it. you can't put stipulations on your boyfriends' hang out times just because he happens to hang out with a female. she is obviously engaged with someone else and is most likely not that concerned. If he has any kind of respect for you he will stay with you and only you - as i'm sure he will! Don't worry about the differences between male and female - friends are friends. I just lost my best friend because his girlfriend didn't like the fact that we talked - and it kills us both, but there's nothing we can do about. Just remember to think about his feelings on the situation.

They had a life before you came along, granted they did date , which makes it scary but you can not come in between their friendship or he will just end up hating u in the long run. I actually was in this situation but I am the one who has a best friend for a guy but we had been intimate in the past. Well, he liked him but was very jealous, it took time reassuring him that there is nothing going on anymore, and it will never be ever again.
also a question to ask, if you had a guy best friend, would you want your boyfriend to tell u that you cant hang out with him or sabatoge your friendship?.

treat her like a guy, if shes his friend, then o well, he obviously likes u more than her, so i think ur safe. Like u said, if it was a guy, then you wouldnt be bothered. My father has a whole bunch of girls from his work that he goes out to the movies and stuff in a big group, but my mother isnt jealous. So i think you are fine :)

Become one of her best friends too. That way she will include you in everything that she does and that way you won't have to be jealous anymore.
