They should be able to isolate it within about 5-6 months, stay on top of it and talk to your doctor ASAP, they'll test you as soon as they can.

anytime a person has a tatoo, they should always test for diseases....hcv-the worst type of hepatitis is blood born. even if the instrument is cleaned, there still is a chance for hcv, because hcv can reconstitute after blood is reintroduced. all it takes is blood small enough that is unseen to the naked eye.
i'd suggest getting a test at 9 weeks after your tatoo. by then, most people infected show antibodies for it.
hcv can cause acute hepatitis or not. you can have symptoms or be of absense of symptoms and still be infected.
hcv is chronic in 85% of the hcv population. it is treated by antiviral chemotherapy and only some genotypes respond better than others.
most do not know they have hcv until the extent of liver damage causes major symtpoms. many went undiagnosed for years (like me) because my alt and ast levels for the most part always were well within the normal limits. it wasnt until a doctor decided to test me for actual antibodies in which they found the culprit to all the symptoms i have had since age 8.

hcv can still transmit in other non-seemingly ways, like getting a peircing or even going to the dentist or having your nails done.

if you tested today for hcv and had it, chances are it wasn't the tatoo, but maybe one of the other ways i mentioned before. those are only some ways, others are sharing drugs where blood might have a chance of entering your blood stream. hcv is not a true std because it only transmits through blood and blood transfer.
treatment is best if you catch it right away.

good luck
