Out of curiousity, why does just about every atheist comment I have seen on R&S assume that every Christian is uneducated simply because they believe something you do not? I mean really. I find it just as uneducated to believe that everything came from a rock. Why is it unreasonable to understand that an educated Christian believes in God and Creation?

LOL...I'm sorry, but I can't help laughing. First of all, so far there have been some good answers from both sides of the story. But some are rather idiotic. For example, one said I can't prove there is a God, but do they not see that they can't prove there isn't either?

Second, another said that no educated person, even religious, does not believe in Creation. That's just a blatant lie.

Also, as far as the rock comment goes. Just about every book on evolution goes like this: the earth came into being with a big bang, then after millions of years the earth cooled down, and then it rained on the earth for millions more years breaking down the ROCKS into a primordia soup and after more millions of years life emerged from this soup.

A soup that was made from ROCKS, so basically evolution comes down to all life born from a ROCK.

I also realize that alot of Atheists are bashers just like many Christians aren't. And I know there will always be the jerks on both sides trying to offend the other.

Again, I also realize that not all atheists believe in evolution, but statistically, most do.

And to the one who ASSUMES that I am uneducated, you are quite wrong. I am well educated in what I believe as well as what others believe and in evolution. I do my homework and I was never brainwashed into anything, I made an informed, rational choice and CHOSE Christianity, though I'm a bit more eclectic then most.

Sorry, this statement :also realize that alot of Atheists are bashers just like many Christians aren't. And I know there will always be the jerks on both sides trying to offend the other. --- was supposed to say that many Christians ARE, not aren't. There are Christian bashers just like every other religion.

One last comment and then I'll probably stop and choose the best answer and end the question. First, I wasn't insinuating a claim, that had nothing to do with the question. I realize the -you can't prove it, I can't prove it--- is circular reasoning, I was simply pointing out that the person who made that comment wasn't allowing for the fact that they couldn't prove anything either.

Second, I love to learn about everything. Literally I will look up and research just about anything. Currently I'm studying quantum physics, and interesting subject.
Third, I was simplifying evolution. And if you have done research you will find that every 'fact' used to 'prove' evolution has been shown by many esteemed scientists (of both sides) to be either false, fradulent or entirely speculation. Evolution has NEVER been observed in a lab. (and yes, I know creation hasn't either)

And as for 'millions of years', carbon dating has been proven false and unreliable, dating two bones on the same animal millions of years apart. Also, they say that the geometric layers date the fossils, then later they say the fossils date the layers. Circular reasoning.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, not all people who are on here represent how an entire group of people feel. I'm sure there are some Atheists who are lovely people and don't feel the need to attempt to feel superior to people who believe in God. The ones that bash (this goes for religious people who do this as well) are insecure. There are intelligent, secure Atheists as well. People from all religions (or lack thereof) have those idiots that spoil things for everyone. I think it's easier to be an a**hole on here and some people take advantage of that anonymity. Take it with a grain of salt and remember half the people saying flippant things here wouldn't dare say it in real life.

If you have strong beliefs, that's awesome. Defend them to death. I'll always support that and I think there's room enough on this planet for all of us. Some people are bitter and get worked up over other people's beliefs because they have nothing better to do. The people who have to bash others are just insecure and more than likely, sad people in "real" life. It's just an easy way for them to vent without real consequences.

It's hard for the non-believing person to understand the believing person, and vice-versa. How many times have we seen the question "How can you NOT believe in God?" Just about as many times as we've seen "How can you believe in God?" There is a fundamental difference between the two points of view, and it is irreconcilable.

The non-believers, like myself, see the believer as believing in something so far-fetched and obviously wrong that they assume that there must be something wrong with that person's mind to make them believe in such a way.

Believers look at non-believers and think that to not believe in something so obviously true and right as God, the non-believer must be willfully denying God, or that he has been tricked by the devil.

There is no common ground for these two points of view, because they are exactly the opposite of each other. Lacking the ability to understand each others' point of view, the best we can do is to remember that the other person is a person as well, and to treat them accordingly.

What a person believes is not nearly so important as what they do, and who they are.

Well let's see. Perhaps it's unreasonable because we have a wealth of evidence that life on earth extends back beyond 3.5 billion years and all species did not spring into existence in a few days before the sun and moon were created? Perhpas it's unreasonable because we have not a single shred of evidence of a six day creation by executive fiat, and tha thigher education generally includes being taught to seek proof for assertions, and seek a lot of proof for extraordinary assertions. It is certainly possible to have some form of education (hotel management?) and remain completely ignorant of:
Botany
Zoology
Chemistry
Geology
Paleontology
Meterology
Cosmology
Astronomy
Physics
Matehmatics
Ancient History
Ancient Literature
Comparative Religion
Anthopology
Sociology
Psychology

Okay I have to stop.

However much schooling you may have had, that you have not had a broad-based liberal arts education is all but self- evident, because Christians whose education is broad- based generally recognize the Genesis tale as mythical and do not limit God to the creationist view nor believe the entire Bible is literal history and scientific fact. It is typically the fundamentalist that despises learning and its fruits as "worldly" that continues to cling to pre-bronze age mythology as literal history. There are exceptions, so I concede a creationist may have credentials, but I maintain that their ignorance remains unresolved by their exposure to learning and/or they have walled off their religious beliefs from critical examination.

Schooling only counts if you learn. If you cling to falsehood in the face of fact you have not been educated.

When I refer to a Christian as being "uneducated" what I'm specifically referring to is their education in regards to the evidence ( or lack there of) for God. You incriminated yourself when you accused Atheists of "believ(ing) that everything came from a rock". That is NOT what we believe. Case closed.

Most of the Christians that come on here spouting their beliefs are close minded idiots. I am aware that that is only a fraction of the Christian population. The educated Christians know that people will be people, and not everyone believes the same thing, but its ok and there is no need to verbally attack them over Yahoo. The reason they are called uneducated on here is because they are. They spell 70% of their words incorrectly and they basically condemn everyone that is different than them to hell. Christians are not uneducated. People that attack people on here are uneducated.

OK, you obviously know nothing about evolution OR the big bang if that's your summary of it. The Earth was NOT created in the big bang, which was NOT an explosion. It was an expansion. The Earth was formed billions of years later.

And we don't have to prove there isn't a god, any more than you have to prove there are magical wish-granting fairies in my sink. You make a claim, YOU prove it. Basic logic.

As for everything coming from rocks - what exactly do you think you're made of? I've got news for you - rocks, metals, gases. That's it. All of which was here when the Earth was formed.

It would indeed be uneducated to believe that everything came from a rock. The fact that you actually think that's what atheists believe demonstrates that you are uneducated.
Anyway, 'educated' can be a misleading term. For all I know, you could be a great mathematician. You could have studied mathematics for forty years, and that would make you extremely 'educated'. It would not, however, mean that you understood evolution or the Big Bang.
Any creationist is either uneducated in the field of evolution, or just plain thick.

Christians make fun of other religions and even go as far as calling other gods "false gods." So its the same behavior no matter what. OHHHH CHECK AND MATE!!!!

Maybe we assume things like that bacause of comments like, oh i dont know, "everything came from a rock" who told you that athiest said things like that? clearly you are not fully informed.

i am an atheist and i dont assume that all Christians are uneducated. In fact, 99% of the time i give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they know what they are talking about. However, i have been in many of conversations with Christians about Creationism vs. the Big Bang and Christians have consistanly given me vague and open ended answers based on what their parent or someone at their church told them. after a while this tend to get irritating.
