Onions and garlic cause anemia in dogs, unfortunately there is not really a good "dose".... some dogs eat lots of onions and they do great, some dogs eat meat seasoned w onions and get sick......
Something to do at home to give you peace of mind: Check her gums and notice if they are pink or pale, if they are pale take her to an emergency vet asap. However, with onions, is rare for them to cause anemia this fast, they tend to take months of eating onions until they get anemic (check her gums daily for a few weeks).... Just keep in mind for the future not to give her anything w onions, garlic, or grapes to be in the safe side. Sounds like you gave the onions a while ago, is probably too late to make her throw up.
Likely, she is ok.... I am thinking more of the pasta being too high in carbohydrates and now she is having that low feeling that you get when you eat too much and then your blood glucose crashes... as I call it, food coma..... she may throw up tomorrow if she got too bloated today, but she will be fine.
If she is still lethargic tomorrow, you should call your vet... good luck!

unfortunately onions are toxic to dogs and cats-dogs get Heinz anemia -the red blood cells burst I could not find anything on what to do once the dog has eaten the onion but I strongly recommend you take to a VET-the anemia takes seveal days to take place but the belly being swollen is not a good sign-if she starts vomiting food and blood it may be too late and only prayer will help so ...You can call your Vet and although office closed there will be a Emergency No listed-call this number usually you leave your name,no and the problem and you'll get a call back. You can ALSO Call a 24HR Emergency Clinic anbd they will advise you on the phone what you should do. People think if ok for them ok for pet too but many foods are toxic to animals why i never give people food to my pets esp with all th additives, colorings etc in foods today GO TO: www.mooreshaven.com/pets/dogs/badfoodlist.html for a lot of foods that are toxic to dogs but the best rule to be sure is do not givve ANY people Food-even meats have antibiotics, growth hormones etc(given to the animals and so in their meat which also can harm animals.I really hope your dog will be ok

I found this for you:
Onions are toxic in any form
Onions are toxic in large quantities- the toxicologist said like if a dog ate an onion soup or a large, whole onion. (he said this is true even with a 4 pound dog!)
Onion toxicity builds up over time - so if the dog is getting a little bit of onion everyday - it will build up in his system, even if its only a small quantity everyday
Symptoms to look for (this is just a few that I can remember): panting after a small amount of exercise, getting tired easily, vomiting and intestinal upset a few days after eating the onions.
My puppy ate some grapes which are also toxic so I'm in the same situation. I hope she gets better. Best of luck.

You should call either animal poison control or an emergency center immediately and seek professional medical advice. They may need to induce vomiting and give her activated charcoal to decrease the absorption of the onions.
In a dog that size, DO NOT risk it, especially since you say that the spaghetti had lots of onions. Onions can cause hemolytic anemia in dogs. By acting on it immediately, you can save your dog's life.

Well, that was very rich food for a Chihuahua. They aren't very good pot-lickers, as they can't tolerate so many spices and fats.
I doubt that the onion is making her ill, but more likely indigestion. Also, MSG and Nitrates can be very toxic to Chihuahuas. Dogs shouldn't have much tomato, either..
So, I would say to watch her tonight, and if she isn't better by morning, call your vet..
Onions do cause anemia in dogs, but not likely just one serving..

Probably has some gas. A little onion won't hurt her.It is even used in some dog foods. It can keep vitamin B from being absorbed in dogs.
If you are worried or she seems worse you can call the 24 hr. hotline at your vets.

Onions are known to be lethal to dogs. The safest and easiest thing to do, is to call the vet, tell them what happened, and see what they say.
