There is the possibility that he'll think he's being snapped up on the rebound, and that's actually what you'd be doing in some people's eyes. Does this matter to you. Would you let him go to someone else for the sake of your "image"?
Sound him out. let him know that you are aware of the possibilities - both ways - and see whether it's likely to develop. If not, let him know that you're there just in case, and walk away. If it's right, and you wobble the right way, he'll follow up!

Uh, yeah! Let the guy take a breather and heal if he needs to. Your relationship will most likely be less likely to succeed if you make him rush into another relationship if he just ended one. You've waited this long; you can wait another few weeks.

look at it like this.... if u had just broken up with ur bf, would u want someone else asking u out rite away? mmmmmmmmmm, lol, probably not..... so ask wen it feels rite. Not just at the first chance u get

yes, he needs time to get over her and get bak to the real world...and u never know if they mite go out again cuz some couples brake up quite frequently and end up going out again...give it a week or two...
