That would depend on how old you where when she passed if you where a young child then it could just be you don't remember but if you where a little older like 9 or above you could have blocked it.
Try looking at photos that where taken of her and you before the illness i bet it will bring a smile to your face and just seeing the picture may bring back some good memories.
My children just lost their father they are ages 9, 11, and 13 I have planned for all different scenarios and I am finding the pictures work.

Im very sorry for your loss it is never easy watching somebody you love die especially when it is over a prolonged period. I myself have never lost a parent, but my son died enexpectedly 5 years ago. Even now when i think of him It is hard for me to get a clear picture of his face and remember what he looked like. It is very upsetting. In times like these I will go down and visit him and sit and talk with him or I get the album out and the memories become a little clearer. Sometimes I get a whiff of a certain smell and the memories come flooding back. It is not uncommon what you are experiencing so dont be to hard on yourself, your mother is never far from you and you will never forget her.

it is completely normal to lose some of those memories over time. one thing that i've found helped it to talk about things with my mom (my dad died), go through photo albums and go over old home videos. if ever there is a memory i feel i'm forgetting, I ask my mom about the memory and then write it down so that one day I will be able to look back on them. I hope this helps you!

That happened to my sister when our Mother passed away. She had just turned 17 and was very close to our Mom. Immediately she lost most of her memories of her. I know that it was a way her mind found to protect herself. It has been 25 years now and she is thinking about getting hypnotherapy to get her memories back.

As time goes on, I forget more about time with my mother. She died suddenly when I was 17.
