Yes we definitely use it in the south, but it is also a naval term, I believe, reckoning. I have looked up several words we use in the south and I noticed that they are older English; IE yonder.

It's kind of old-fashioned and out-of-date to use "reckon" in American speech. It has been used mostly in the deep South of the U.S. whenever it has been in vogue.
