i have scoliosis too, but i had a boston back brace. i heard that your back can still get worse even if you are done growing. i heard yoga works great for scoliosis i still need to try that. also you should see a chiropracter(sp). if you back is about >45 you should talk to your doctor about getting surgery. ask your doctor to check your back about every 6 months to make sure it is not getting worse. hope your pain gets better! good luck!

Scoliosis as an abnormal lateral curvature in your spine (it would look like an S if you looked at your back directly from behind). Depending on the severity there may be a limited amount of recovery from it, but some rehabilitation is probably possible. Chiropractics may be able to help, but another alternative is a physiotherapist who can do non-invasive treatment. Through posture analysis, possibly traction and fixing any muscle balances the severity of the scoliosis may be limited.
Doctors are not the know all and end all, do some research into it. At the very least you will be able to slow down the progression of it. You are young enough that the discs between your vertebras are still quite pliable, so there is lots of hope for you yet.

My scoliosis wasn't found until I was 17 and a half, I am now 20 and just had scoliosis surgery, I had a 58 degree curve. My Doctor monitored my curve and decided to do surgery as a preventive measure, to keep my curve from getting any worse. Since I was mostly done growing, my doctor said that a brace would do me no good. I could wear the brace, but as soon as I took it off, things would just go back to the way they were before. I had pretty bad back pain and just took 800 mg of ibuprofen probably like twice a day, it helped me. You don't say what your curve is, but just have your doctor watch it, scoliosis can continue to curve as you get older due to any number of reasons. Good luck.

One thing scoliosis patients agree on is that chiropractic goes a long way with symptomatic relief when it comes to scoliosis pain.
For for long term solution, there are less invasive types of brace which could be used for symptomatic relief and may give you minor correction in the process. Check out Spinecor...

Have you tried a chiropractor? One of my friends has the same thing and goes once a week and he stays pain free. I would think that doing some Asian therapy would help. Check out a few. Stretches and build up muscle around the parts that hurt. I have a knee that detritus. I constantly have to work on that knee so that it holds its place. I stop and it hurts like hell.
I'm sorry to hear you got Scoliosis. I wish you luck on your search and never give up. I have been fighting for answers for years. You can make it no matter how frustrating it gets.
Take Care :)

Scoliosis refers to an abnormal curvature of the spine. Depending on why you have it and how bad it is you could seek holistic (non-medicine) answers for pain management and perhaps a way to correct it or at least keep it from getting worse.
Try "Googling" and getting info that way. :) Scoliosis support groups, websites... Chiropractic, acupuncture, and exercise physiologists could have a valuable input.
Don't fret! Get the scoop! MD's are just one avenue. :)
Best of luck!

i have scoliosis along with a few other medical conditions, but my curvature was caught early during childhood. my spine was 20 degrees off, its also the reason why my hips are tilted, but it wasnt severe enough to wear a brace or go under surgery. the d.o. referred me and my parents to a podiatrist who specialized in shoe lifts. at first my lift was 2 inches and on the bottom of my left shoe then after my spine got better, it started at 20 then it went down to 13 and now its set at 7, i could wear a small 1/4 inch lift on the inside and nobody would know or pick on me. now i dont wear it anymore because i accidently lost it at my girlfriends house (she too has scoliosis but hers was worse {physically and emotionally} [she got picked on because she had to wear a brace]). we still have our curvatures but it doesnt affect me more than it does her (she complains about it, now and then). ask your doctor about acupuncture then if s/he says no, go ahead and do it anyhow.
