We live in the country, one of our other cats left about 2months ago and has never returned. We have had coyotes and owls around before, but Cloe (my cat) has been going outside for the past 3 or 4 years. We also have 3 dogs, who I wish would watch over the cats. I don't like letting Cloe out, but she runs out any chance she gets. I miss her sooooo much, I feel awful. All I want is for her to come home soon! It is hard for me to be optimistic about this situation, but I don't want to give up hope. I love Cloe, and if she doesn't come home I won't want to ever get another pet.

She might have found another house she likes.I had a cat that would leave for a week or so. She was going to someone elses house and staying there. When she got tired of them she would come home.

I had a cat leave and never did return. After several weeks I was driving around my neighborhood and there sitting at the front door, of someone else's house, was MY cat. She just looked at me and didn't move. So I thought, "well fine, you want to live there then you shall". I lived in that home another year and I never did see her on my street.

I live in the country also and I've lost lots of pets due to coyotes and red foxes. The price we pay for living here. Not your fault that she wanted out, it's just their nature.

Here is how my dear friend handles her indoor animals. She put in a cat door through the wall that leads to an area outside that is completely fenced, top-bottom and sides. Now the sides are buried about 18 inches in the ground so that they can't dig out and nothing will get in. It's sort of a spa for cats with litter box soil in one part of it. I thought that was a wonderful way to handle living in the country.

You should get another pet - my reason for saying this is you'd be an awesome owner. Why if I was a cat I'd love to live at your home. You are caring and loving, I can tell.

If there are any barns, garages or other buildings she coud have gotten into go around and check them. My cat got closed in a barn once and I searched for 36 hours. I drove all over looking and calling her then I saw her looking out the window of a barn meowing. I called the owner who told me to go ahead and go inside. I found her in an inner room where the door had closed behind her. She was completely hoarse from meowing but she was fine. Cats are so curious by nature they can get themselves into a situation they can't get out of alone. I have another cat who is a climber and I have found her up an 80 ft tree and on the roof of the house so look around and call her. And don't forget cats DO seem to have 9 lives so she's likely out there. Generally missing cats are usually found within 300 ft of home!
Good luck with your search!

Why my cats are always inside cats and contrary to people thinking the inside cat is being deprived cats adapt very well to being just inside naturally exits will have to be blocked and why I have had baby gates at exit doors thaa are easily managed by adults but keep loved pets from dashing out.My present cat since birth has always wanted to be inside. I will pray for Chloe to come home but considerong there ar coyotes and owls if when she does would make sure she can't dash out-mostly its habit.Too many dangers on the outside. But in case Chloe does not come back-you do know that animals go straight to Heaven , go to www.rainbowsbridge.com for the beautiful poem-when I had to put my much loved pet rabbit,Precious to sleep for he had uncurable cancer my Vet sent it to me. But do reconsider about having another pet for So Many are in desperate need esp those at Shelters ,Humane Society, the Pound.Just think the Joy you'll give to a poor needy animal just by giving it food and a warm place to sleep and in return you get so much love and I'm sure Chloe would want you to. All my animals have been strays , the latest a Lab/Huskie Mix that came starved and severely abused -was scared of everything and needed special Vet care from the Physical abuse-He is now a beautiful dog and always looks like he's smiling and in his eyes he tells me how grateful tht I saved him.Its very hard to lose a pet and to deal with the grief that follows but the love you gave and that Chloe gave to you is always there in your heart. I once had a cat come home after being gone 1 1/2 week and thats the last time too that I allowed my cats outside. Feel for you.

You know what... If Chloe doesn't come home, you shouldn't get anymore pets. After losing your other cat 2 months ago, and knowing that there are coyotes and other animals out there preying on cats.. Not to mention mean kids and cars... You should have learned from the first cat, to keep Chloe in the house. I hope she comes back, but it doesn't sound too promising to me..

If your cat comes home you should reconsider its health by allowing to go where it could be hurt so easily. I know you live in the country but this cat is your responsibility and you are doing her a great diservice by putting her in a situation where she could get hurt in all of these manners described by everyone. It makes me so sad as a cat lover that these cats could be so mistreated.

a spayed cat shouldn't just leave like that ! My cats are outside cats and they are fixed, they never just wonder off ! when you spay a cat it keeps them from wondering off , cause they will wonder off looking for a mate ! so if my cat gets missing for just over a day i know to go looking for it cause it could be somewere hurt or stuck ! I have found my cat locked up in the neighbors basement before and could not get out , if i had not went looking for him he would of straved to death !! This has happend more then once ! the other day my husband had to go tell the neighbor our cats was in their basement so he opend the door and little while later he came out !! They sometimes leave the door open and go back later and shut it and not knowing a cat is in there !! we don't know until we haven't seen the cat for a awhile !! luclky my husband came home in time to hear the cat meowing before coming into the house after work !! Or we wouldn't heard him !! when i was outside i never heard him meow!! So please check around places near by and look up in trees if he is wearing a collar !! I have heard they can get hung on a tree or anything if they have on a collar they want break !! Thats why they make collars for cats that will break if a cat pulls hard enoguh, incase they get hung up !! just go lookig around near your house and if you have any neighbors check with them too !! i,m sorry and hope you can find your cat, but it's not normal for a cat thats fixed to run away from home like that !! sorry !

do no longer panic, my cat has achieved this previously, she went for 5 days. i presumed she had died someplace or somebody had taken her. there is not any longer plenty you're able to do. Cats do bypass off for long sessions, and some of the time they arrive decrease back. i might stick up posters besides in order that human beings could make useful they have not close her in a storage/shed, etc.

I live out in the country and my cat went out one day and was caught in a steel trap set by neighbors to catch raccoons. her foot was crushed and we ended up with a 200+ vet bill to save her leg. Plus we had to call the cops because we couldn't open the trap (roommate and I) and the people were forcing us off their property, saying they would "Get rid of it, put it out of its misery" If she wasnt a loud cat and we hadn't found her before they did......

If she hasn't met with a misfortune she will probably come back on her own, and you may want to make a policy of not letting her out. Bad things can happen even in the counrty.

I can say, I live in town and I've had a few cats leave and never come back. I did have one cat that left for over a week, she was fixed, and she came back smelling of smoke. I knew someone found her, thought she was a stray cat and took her in. Once she got the chance to get back outside, she came home.

You said you live in the country though. My mom lives in the country and she has lost so many cats in the last 20 years. Some however come and go, they become more independant and learn to prefer it outside. Cats are very good at taking care of themselves even in the country. There is also a chance a coyote got her. You never know.

One of my mom's cats left for over a year, we learned that the neighbor had him, he went from house to house around the area and just skipped my mom's house. Another one of her cats got attacked by a coyote and it took her over a week to come back. Part of her tail was missing and she was missing fur on her back but she was fine other than that. She still comes back ever few months to eat and rest but that's about it.

I understand how sad you are right now. My neighbor's pitt bull got out a few weeks ago and killed two of my cats. They refused to use the litter box so I put them outside at night. I couldn't take it anymore, three years of going potty where ever they wanted. I blame myself for their death. We started making our other two cats stay inside. No problem for one but the other, she ran out any chance she got just like yours. We tried to go outside and get her but she ran from us. We went inside for a little bit thinking she would come back on the porch so I could try again to get her. Bad idea, the pitt got out right after we went inside and got ahold of her. She was hurt badly but wouldn't come out from under the car. We went to speak with the police and when we came back, she was gone. Two days later she came up to my porch crying so badly. I rushed her to the vet and had to have her put down, her leg was hurt too badly and the infection had gone too far.

I blame myself in a way for that one too but I tried everything I could to keep her in. Some cats are NOT inside cats. If she doesn't come home, if something bad happened to her, try to remember that she would have been miserable in the house. Would you rather be locked up in lets say, prison, just to stay alive or would you want to go out, live your life and be happy even if that means you might not live near as long?

You are a good pet owner so don't forget that.
