i'm a christian, but i think that the main reason they don't is because they don't want to believe that there is someone out there that is a greater power and can really do anything. i guess they just want to think that they can do everything themselves and they want to be the boss of themselves.

Because there's no evidence for the existence of a god.

It's _exactly_ the same as the reason why you don't believe in lime-green flying elephants.

It's not a touchy subject among nonbelievers, but believers seem terribly bothered by it, and typically need to make up stories about atheists wanting to "avoid being held responsible" or "not wanting to believe in anything outside of themselves" or some drivel like that.

The main reason of why I do not believe in god is ...... well ...... what is there to believe? The reason will be the same when I ask you, why do you not believe in say Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Jewism and the rest.

Some claim we lack of faith or heart or compassion, but then it is their own myopic view.

What is faith? Faith is something you believes in. Two types of faith, one is call faith with evidence. Something you believe in with substantial proof. For example, I have faith in my dog who will be fetching the stick when I throw it out. That is faith with evidence. Another type of faith is what we called, blind faith, believing in something some other people said without evidence and you have to believe it because some one says so, why do some one says so, because a book says so, why a book as so? because the author of the book says so, why the author says so? because the character in the book ask the author to write the book says so. So who is that character? you have to believe in him for him to talk to you. So why is that? because someone says so (please read back to the the part before, try to find a way to get out of this infinite loop). You got what I mean.

Lack of heart. What is heart? Something that touches you. Being an Atheist or part of an atheist religion does not mean I am numb to everything. In fact, I can work based on what I think is right, judge based on my own intelligence. I do not need a book to tell me it is not right to kill. However, some book does indicate it is right to kill, as long as you say it is god's will. You can even be killed for finding conscientiousness and for not "laying" with your brother's wife therefore "throw your seed on the floor" (The reason why masturbating is forbidden by certain religion? Because you are wasting god's gift of seed?), now tell me who has more heart?

Compassion ..... you get the idea ;P.

Because I already tried that and it didn't give me the answers to my life that I agreed with. So I went out on my own and looked at the different faiths that are out there and I found Wicca. And now I feel my questions are being answered and the answers make sense to me.

I believe that the meek will not inherit the Earth. The Earth is our Mother, and we must respect her and do what we can to heal Her. We do not own Her, but are a part of Her. Everything we do to Her affects us as well.

Blessed Be )O(

There is no evidence that there is a god. No evidence essentially means that someone made it up. It is not reasonable to believe in things without any evidence. You would be stuck with every ridiculous thing that human imagination could come up with.

Not believing in god is the same as not believing in Zeus, Odin, Santa, the Tooth Faerie, and all the thousands of others since the evidence is exactly the same. I would be no less surprised if someone found evidence of Bacchus than I would be if they found evidence of your god.

Because we DON'T...you know you can search on questions to see just how many times this has been asked.

Why don't you believe in Thor, Zeus, Apollo, Mithra...and all the other countless gods and goddesses that were around waaayyyy before yours made an entrance.....

Have you not read the hundreds of times this question has been answered here?

As for me though, I'm not an atheist, but I'm certainly not a Christian. I'm a Pagan who used to be a Christian, and I just found the Bible lacking severely.

It's not a touchy subject for me.
I don't believe in God for the same reason that you don't believe in Zeus (assuming you don't believe in Zeus).
You probably only believe in one god, so if you think of all the reasons you don't believe in all the other gods, those are my reasons too - except I follow those reasons for every god.
That's why I'm an atheist.

The truth can best be discovered by reason and factual analysis, rather than faith, dogma or religious teaching. Therefore I don't believe in any supernatural daddies or mommies

Its simple really. Religious belief is acquired in childhood. If, for some reason, you don't get conditioned to it as a child you are very likely to grow into non-belief.

During natural disatrous, God is useless. During war, God is useless. During peace time, God is useless. During crisis, the helps rendered to us is all people around us. When 300,000 people were killed during 2005 Tsunami, where is God? I only see human giving the helping help to the victims. God is useless in real life.
