My chihuahua wasn't well, to help prevent hypoglycemia, we were recommended to give it Pedialyte (heard that before) or Gatorade, preferably the orange or red flavors.
Has anyone else ever heard of that?
PS I didnt give it th Gatorade, it was just too weird.

Pedialyte is a lot safer

About Gatorade: "Water is the safest thing. Sugar is damaging to dogs in the same way that it is damaging to diabetics. Excess salt is not excreted by dogs as they do not sweat (like humans). except through their pads. Don't load them up with salt, their bodies are pretty good at hoarding salt. The ONLY time you should give your dog excess salt/sugar is when your vet says to do so. They'll tell you to keep salt AND sugar away from your pets."

We have used Pedialyte for our dogs at home while they were really sick but dont feed them more than you need to. Water is always the best, even though its hard.

You should ask your vet when it is appropriate to give it to him/her, also how much. You dont want them to like it more than water or they will constantly want it.

Also- Electrolytes dont mean that much to dogs and Gatorade isnt even that great for humans- water is always best

The gatorade has elektrolytes in it... which help the body contain more water, so it isnt as dehydrated... it also has enough sugar to give them energy to eat and get better...

I had to give my dog the orange kind too...

The orange and red kind, have a better flavor, and potency, and the gatorade is good, becuase the dogs actually want to drink it, because it tastes good...

Thank God you have some common sense about you. Gatorade is not good for humans let alone our dogs. Orange and red flavouring will only make you dog hyperactive. You could be adding a small spoonful of 100% apple cider vinegar to his drinking water. I wonder if gatorade contains any aspartame, as this is what doctors prescribe diabetics, and I still have never seen a diabetic get better.

Yes, this is quite a normal recommendation. When my 45 lb dog was ill, she drank Gatorade to help with dehydration due to vomiting. She survived, but whenever my brother drinks a Gatorade, she thinks its for her!

I would say go with pedialite. Gatorade is nothing more than expensive koolaid. (don't believe me read te label. 2nd ingredient is high fructos cornsyrup). The pedialite will help with the dehydration that your dog may suffer from.

Gatorade prevents fluid and electrolyte imbalance. but that is for humans. i don't know if it works for dogs though. but if your vet says so, then it might work
