It is a sign of what religion in our society has become, that people only turn to prayer when they have tried everything else first. It should not be used as a last resort, it should be used in conjunction with the other attempts to resolve the problem/frustration/trial.
The responses to this qwestion are also a sign of what Dragon dislikes about religion. So many peeple say and do hateful things in the name of God and the Christ (or Allah and Mohamed, or Jehovah, or whichever deity one believes in). It is sad.

Great observation! I have been there myself.
Because God built himself into us, there is no other and our hearts cry out to the living God.
He really wants us to count on needing His love.
He sends us the Holy Spirit to our minds to help us through tough times.
Jesus in the Eucharist (Body and Blood at Mass) is the actual fuel that I need because Jesus becomes part of me.
So with Jesus, I count on him and I am never exhausted and need him at least weekly.
Without Jesus I would be empty and look for other ways that may not get me what I really need. I would then resort back to prayer to find the way and get back to Jesus. Blessings,hw

I actually don't find that to be true. I know several people who sit on their butts praying to God to make their life better instead of getting up and doing something about their problems. Personally I think that sort of complacency is much more dangerous than putting off prayer until one has done every conceivable thing in their power to make a situation better. (Although I see no reason why you can't pray and take care of business at the same time.)

Because it IS the last resort. Some people need a crutch in life and put it down to prayer and faith but what they dont realise is, The bible and religion is like a map that you can follow. Its structered, these people need structure, something to tell them how to think and what is right and wrong, sheesh I would rather look within myself and pull those answers.

I pray before I do anything else. I do not leave prayer as a last resort.

I don't, I start praying before, during and after. I believe in the power of prayer.

some times the reason they are in the situation they are in is because they forgot about GOD. God will allow evil in our life to stirr us up and help humble us. Think 911. Ever see the president quote scripture on the air? 911 you did. When we forget about God, he humbles us to help us back to the faith.

How do you know that people resort to prayer and faith when they have exhausted all other avenues? I personally don't tell people how frequently I pray or the extent of my faith. That is my business and mine alone. I don't want to tell people that. Are you able to detect people who have faith? Can you tell when someone is praying? Unless the person is kneeling, I doubt it.

If they fully loved God and trusted Him, they would turn to Him first. He's supposed to be our Best Friend, the One who's closer to us than our own brother.
It's a shame people don't put Him first in their lives.

because they still are trying to be self reliant and not surrender to God in all things... God wants to be our strength in the small things of life as well as the big things in life..... many want to control all things in their lives, and only give God the reigns when it is spiralling out of control
