I am a Mormon and people sometimes ask me how many wives I have. I tell them one. Then I ask how many Ex-wives they have. That pisses them off something good. But honestly, why are Mormons now the only ones who are trying to keep just one wife?

Maybe because they are CHRISTIAN and they "try" to follow the scriptures. True Christians don't fall into the temptations of sin. That is the way of the world, in these latter days. I wonder what Jesus has to say about "ex-wifes?"

The marriage contract was originally a purchase contract between father and husband. Polygamy of course was a rich man's prerogative. These days we have moved on to owning multiple cars and homes, rather than multiple women. Mormons were the last to catch on and thus are teased for being unfashionable.

And as for your disparaging view of those with ex wives:

Current evolutionary research seems to indicate that serial monogamy is our most natural state. The natural life cycle of a successful relationship is usually around 3-4 years. This corresponds wonderfully with the time is takes a child to be weaned (around age 3 in native societies) and become reasonably mobile. After that the mother no longer has to carry it for long periods, and is not dependent on the father for food and shelter. The progression of falling in love and settling down comes full circle when the couple grows dissatisfied with the status quo, and parts ways to go off and form new pair-bonds.

Mormons also have a high divorce rate - especially with the converts who come into the church and a spouse does not. Mormons don't aim for a low divorce rate.
