"A man should not wear anything on his head when worshiping, for man is made in God’s image and reflects God’s glory. And woman reflects man’s glory. For the first man didn’t come from woman, but the first woman came from man. And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man. For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority." 1 Corinthians 11:7-10

Women should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. But women will be saved through childbearing. assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty. 1 Timothy 2:11-15

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35

And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. 1 Timothy 2:9-10

In paul's time, women were not to have rights or to be over the men, but be helpers of these men. they were not considered to be leaders because of how Adam and eve were portrayed in the book of Genesis!

The way to see if it is sexist is to switch the gender and say the verses with "Man" where it says "Woman" and "Woman" where it says "Man". Let's try it on for size and see if men like this...

Men should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let men teach women or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. Fog God made Woman first and afterward he made MAN. And it was not Woman who was decieved by Satan. The man was deceived, and sin was the result. But man will be saved through child(producing), assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness and modesty.

Now, does that sound acceptable to men? If not, the scriptures aren't sexist. In my opinion, the very idea that the bible claims that Man was created first and woman created the downfall of all creation is a myth to promote men and demote women. Women save humanity and it has been proven over and over. To make women seem like the root of all the worlds problems is a falacy and a lie. Women are about the only thing that is good in the world...too bad so many women try to act like men.

Yep, the bible is very sexist.

I always wondered about why they said woman had to be silent in the churches and I am glad you made that point. It was explained to me that there was a certain church in Corinth where the woman were worshipping idols and other gods during worship to the Lord. So that message was for them because they were causing problems for the believing christians. The woman is the weaker vessel, but that is not a bad thing. I see myself as a strong woman of God and I know that God does not see me as just a woman. I am a little feminist in my views believe me, but I do know that I am not a weak person. I used to have a problem with those verses but once they were explained to me I didn't see them as damnation to women!

That shows me God puts things in order. Men and Women have different rolls in life. Women are one of the best gifts God gave Men. We don't walk ahead or behind, we walk side by side. Thank you God for Women

Oh yeah. You didn't know that Christianity is a masculine religion....and was started by masoginists? There are plenty more sexist scriptures than that, I can assure you. Look up the Skeptics Annotated Bible.....and you'll see.

Hell yeah!
But it isn't surprising as it dates from a time in which patriarchal structures were predominant. And by clinging to those old scriptures, Christians only perpetuate this archaic society.

well in a sense....yes but that is the way God made it to be. if God says that i must learn quietly then learn quietly i must. who am i to question the Lord's authority? besides that might have been made so that woman could get into heaven more easily. how great is our God to make every thing convinient for us!

No, as a woman, I do NOT see anything sexist about the verses presented. I was not taken from his feet to be under him or his head to be over him but from a rib to walk beside him.

Sounds sexist to me. It is ashame the many will put their heads in the sand and ignore facts in black and white.

You have to also add in the verses where God tells us that women are blessings and have a role in the glory of God. We all have our place. It doesn't mean that women are less than men, they just have different responsibilities.
