It is a complete distortion because that is not what the bill says at all. Here is the actual bill:
http://www.theorator.com/bills110/text/hr254.html
It was difficult to find in search results due to the number of Christian sites opposing it. Why would they oppose hate crimes legislation, I wonder?

Because human beings are good at composing slippery slope arguments for one...
With enough evidence suport, slippery slope arguments aren't fallacies, but this argument is completely unfounded so it seems.
Though I don't see any need for this legislation, I'm no expert.
I'm a Christian, but I screw up like every normal human being. The guys at that website are normal human beings; they screw up as well.
Oh.. and by the way... the bill was posted as is on the website.

They know for a fact that it will pose future problems because indeed many new lawsuits will arise if this law passes, and personally, they just dont have enough jail space for this law to pass !! If it does pass, count on many , many more overcrowded jails, They do tell you that it gets their foot in the door to create "more problems", and I signed the petition, and you are welcome, if it passes, and you end up saying the wrong thing to a homosexual, you will learn why it shouldnt pass ! The first time it comes up, and a pastor is jailed, their will be UPROARS ACROSS THE CONTINENTS AND NEW SIGNS ON THE CHURCH DOORS SAYING NO HOMOSEXUALS ALLOWED, unless the people do not really believe in the gospel. When you kid says ******,(sp?) and means kindling, he will be jailed also.

That's why you will go to The Great Well of Pain.
Have you ever heard of Libelism? It proves that you are going to hell.
Read my earlier questions for more information.
DOn't believe me? It's written in the Libel in Book 7 paragraph 3. "And yay, this is the word of God, it is a fact and it is infallible and those who dispute it shall be cast into the Great Well of Pain when the time comes for Rover to return and round up the flock"
SO you cannot say I made this up. God said so.

HR 254 will not in itself accomplish these goals, hmmmmm they are trying to create fear and bias towards a group in our society that means them no harm, but is seeking equality.

Probably because they don't really believe in the concept of free-will and the right of others to make their own decisions. One day their Karma will run over their Dogma.
