tell them it's too bad they have no taste or tact, I guess. Many members of my family said they didn't like the name we chose for our daughter (Molly), but I just said, well, it's a pretty name and it will be perfect for her... now they agree.
BTW, what is the name? (I also was planning to name our second Scintilla, but it was a boy, but again, nobody liked the name)
people can be such inconsiderate jerks.

It is your right to give your daughter any name you want.

However, people are rude and these are the adults your talking about, imagine how the kids are going to react to your child's name in school. Kids are just mean and seem to actually enjoy inflicting emotional pain on a child. Will your daughter thank you for the name or regret that you ever though of it.

Are they upset because of the origin of "Pandora"?

Definition:
The first woman, bestowed upon humankind as a punishment for Prometheus's theft of fire. Entrusted with a box containing all the ills that could plague people, she opened it out of curiosity and thereby released all the evils of human life.

Maybe they are blaming you for all the diseases of the world? LOL! I'd just tell them to go find some woman who named her son "Damion" and get over it...

I guess it depends on what you're naming her. If theyre just making fun of you, they might not deserve a response. If it means something special to you, you could explain this to them

Bear in mind though, that what they're saying to you is a preview of what she'll have to go through in school. So if it's bad enough, you might consider making what you've chosen into her middle name.

Their opinion doesn't matter. The question is, will your daughter LIKE the name that you have chosen? If you feel you have to say anything, you can point out that their comment was rude.

Don't worry about what other people say, she is your daughter and what you name her is your business. Don't react, just think to yourself that if other people can't be nice, it's not your problem. If they don't feed you or pay your bills, why should it matter. Don't let it get you down, it's a nice name. All the best and God Bless!!

It should vary based on the realationship to the person- if it is someone you care about- tell them that it really bothers you- if it's a stranger- or someone you just barely know- tell them to mind their own business.

Anyone with common sense would know that criticizing something about somebody's kid is going to cause a problem- if not a fight- so either the person/people being rude are either stupid or they just don't care about offending you- so you need to either smarten them up or make them care.

People think the same thing about what we were going to name our son. We were going to name him Bryson Gallahad but we are having a girl so we named her Brooke Lynn. I would just tell people that its my choice what i name my children and i didnt want to give my child a name that everyone else has. I wanted my child to be unique and special.

It depends.............what name did you choose for your daughter?.............I only ask because there was this kid in my middle school gym class named "harry sack" (I promise you this is not a joke) his legal, parent given name was "harry" not harold, but straight up "harry"..............do you really think his parents didn't think of the first name and the last name ("sack") put together before they signed the certificate? Say the name many times in all different contexts before you bestow it on another human being for the rest of their lives.
