It appears to be anxiety/panic. Try the breathing technique at http://www.deeplyrelax.com Breathing into a paper bag for 10 seconds helps some, others hold their breath for 10 - 15 seconds. Try them both now, while you are relaxed, so you know you won't die, and you'll know how to do them, if another episode occurs. Practice them several times, with 30 mins in between, until capable and confident in your new abilities, so you KNOW you can handle the situation, then go out for a very short walk, alone, and later, a slightly longer one, and so on, until go can go any distance you like. If you learn to repeat the word: "easy" in your mind, that can often do the trick, too. If it was Agoraphobia, you would experience it when accompanied as well, which you apparently don't.

It sounds like you are starting to get agoraphobia. I have suffered from this for 10 years. At one time i was so bad that i couldn't even walk to the mail box in front of my house! I didn't leave the house (at all) for 3 months. I got help and started going to counceling, got on medications and really worked on it and PRAYED ALOT! and now i can do so much more with out getting nervous. The key is to catch it now before it becomes worse. Like right now if you only get nervous walking to the store then, keep trying until you over come that. Don't let it get to where u can't go any where like i did. I really wish you well and God bless!

You can overcome this problem easily using breathing techniques which YOU can control. Start out by practicing deep breathing. Inhale through your nose to a slow count of10. hold in the breath for a count of five, then slowly exhale to a slow count of ten. Start out by doing this ten times and work up to 20. Now, before you are going to enter the store start to do this breathing, at the same time trying to shut out all extraneous thoughts from your mind. You are just breathing in and breathing out, slow and calm and relaxed. You are not aware of any feelings of nerves or people around or any other thing but the smooth rhythmic flow of your breathing. Try this, i have used this technique myself in many stressful situations and it works Great to relieve and actually dissolve the stress!

It sounds you are having a form of panic attack related to being in open spaces.
It happens often to many people usually from some incident, past stress or trauma. Why not visit councilor /therapist they might be able to help you fast. This is not a grave issue that can't be solved but do ask for help.

Good luck!

I have this problem with traveling in a vehicle. Sounds like generalized anxiety. I breathe deeply thru my nose & out my mouth very slow and controlled. I also litsen to my IPod slow relaxing classical music also repeating to yourself "I am calm, cool & collected until you reach your destination may help. Concentrate hard on your slow & steady breaths. Even though its weird to some to have these feelings its more common than you think

Sounds like Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Learn more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalized_anxiety_disorder

It's important to remember this is relatively common and you are NOT going crazy and you're NOT going to die. Try taking baby steps and seek help if you feel like it's getting in the way of living your life the way you want to.

You will be fine, trust me, it passes.

It sounds like agoraphobia or social anxiety disorder. There are medications that will stop your panic attacks. Talking to a counselor may help you to get to the root of the problem.

Try distracting yourself. Count steps, cars, trees, sing, anything. Maybe even having an imaginary conversation -just not out loud. OR make yourself breath in slowly, but deep, thru your nose and out thru your mouth slowly.
Concentrate on something other than where you are going.

Did something bad happen there? Are you afraid?

The thing to do is just keep doing it. Sooner or later you will be used to it. For the first few times it will be hard, but it will get less and less hard and then it will be ok!
