I hate faxing my resume to a job ad and not knowing who I'm faxing it to.

While the previous answer links you to a resource for finding fax numbers if you don't know the number, it won't do you much good for the other way around unless you click on that reverse directory button which goes from the same database as every other reverse directory does.

Basically, it's up to the company whether they publish their fax number in the phone book or not. Many do not as there are fax marketers who just love to send you hundreds of junk faxes a day about stock tips, cheap vacations and refurb office supplies; I know, I get them every day! If they choose to list their number, any reverse directory will work, such as http://www.whitepages.com/9900/reverse_phone
If they don't, there's a chance they may list it on their website. If so, this could come up in a typical Google search http://www.google.com
Just search for the number a few different ways, like (555) 555-5555 or 555-555-5555 or 1-555-555-5555
This may yield results from forums containing posts from other job seekers who could let you know who the mystery employer is.

A lot of companies who are hunting for employees want to stay anonymous until they deem you to be a potential candidate so don't be surprised if you can't find out who they are without them contacting you back first.

Get a No Cost Phone Number Scan at FREEPEOPLESCAN.COM

Its a good way to start. The place lets you to do a no cost phone scan simply to find out if any telephone data is there. This basic alalysis is done without cost. For a full detailed report its a modest payment.

Here's Reverse / Whose Number Lookup page. If you're talking about cell phones, you usually have to pay for that. I've had pretty good luck just using Google a phone number to find out who's calling. If you are researching a quantity of numbers, though, I suppose, you might want a service. I can't imagine why the average person would need to research a quantity of numbers, though, so I assume this is business-related, and it then seems only fair that you pay for a fax service. But maybe it's not.

Phone Number and Whose Number Records Database: https://tr.im/2dj83
Public records are named so because these are records that are meant to be obtained by public and when you say "public", it could be anyone. Public records can be used by anyone for investigations and other things like genealogy, verifications, and free background check. When you say it is public, there is no need to ask permission to the person who is named on the records or the person that you are investigating. You also do not need to ask permission from the government if you want to obtain such records by social security number. All you have to do is to visit them and follow the process of requesting the public records and then wait for the records to be ready for pick up. Once you already have the records that you need, you are now ready to perform a free reverse phone check.

This is the best option for a reverse phone number lookup whose telephone number called.
Receiving a one or two hang up calls each month is probably nothing to worry about, but when those calls increase in frequency and if it happens in the middle of the night then you must do something to stop it, before it starts affecting your life.
