Spiritual development involves a desire to take one's soul beyond the level of the material into that which can only be achieved through eradicating the ego and acknowledging there is a force being God that holds more infinite knowledge and Truth beyond what the world and human relationships can provide.

Regardless of belief, religious affiliation, or spiritual labeling, there is an awareness within every soul to uncover the mysteries of the Universe and know the character of the part of them that is spiritual in nature.

Hi there,

Spiritual Development is an umbrella term to cover a multitude.

In my opinion and experience, my spiritual development began through a sponaneous 'spiritual awakening'. This is an energetic cellular change that occurs in the body through some of the following ways: spontaneously, breath-work, yogic practises, extreme trauma, near death experiences... among several others.

When this 'awakening' occurs, the human is present to the fact that we are all connected to each other and to 'God' or 'spirit' or 'the life force' through the 'Holy Spirit' or 'Universal Energy'. The concept of God as being separate from us is replaced by the awareness that we all have this energy within us.

Spiritual Awakening energy is often called 'kundalini' - a Sanskrit term which means 'energy of consciousness'. With awakening comes consciousness and awareness of the 'true' nature of this world. It is often likened to a coiled energetic 'snake' which lies coiled at the bottom of the spine and when it arises up through the chakras and out of the crown our own universal consciousness is activated.

The chakras function independently of this! People whose consciousness is still dormant have functioning chakras. Anyone who is alive has working chakras. A baby has healthy chakras, but as we all grow and we experience emotions and thoughts that may not be aligned with love, our chakras become clogged and sluggish. We can work on clearing our chakras without activating kundalini energy and live very contentedly I feel. Many energy healing practices help with this. I do think that if someone has the will and level of awareness required to do this kind of self-work, they will more than likely experience a kundalini 'awakening' at some stage in their life.

After someone has had such an experience there follows a period of realignment while they must incorporate their new perspective on life into their life. They will probably find old ways of relating to people no longer work for them, or their current job may no longer 'fit' them. This is a period of transition and can be difficult for those who have no language around what happened to them.

Enjoy the journey!

The way you present it, with the "regardless", it really doesn't mean much, if anything, to me. Within the Christian context, spiritual development means growing in the grace of God; growing in the understanding of my utter dependency on God, with less pride, less judging, more mercy, more love, more trust...

Spiritual Development is maturing. It means becoming a better person. It means growing in the human virtues. It means growing in love for others. It means growing in love for creation. It means becoming more other-centered and less self-centered. It means becoming more patient with others and ourselves. It means becoming aware of a higher Supreme Being. It means becoming more humble. It means acknowledging that there is Someone greater than us responsible for all creation. It means becoming more spiritually mature. It means being more God-centered. It means loving everyone regardless of race or creed. It means to love the way Jesus loved us. It also means becoming more holy everyday. It means becoming less judgemental. It means becoming more forgiving. It means being able to resist temptation. It means becoming meeker and more diplomatic. It means becoming more peaceful and serene. It means becoming more tolerant. It means becoming all things to all men in order to bring them to heaven.

Developing my Character spiritually! I work on the flaws of my character and strive to be the man God wants me to be, of coarse none of that would be possible without God!
