It all depends on where you go. If you can find somewhere where they are I suggest you use chicken liver for bait. It works better than the stink bait you buy out of stores. I'm from miss. and I tend to catch all my catfish in in muddy running water. I just caught over a 100lbs today

They should be heading upriver to spawn pretty soon. Use heavy rods and reels with 20 - 50 lb test line, 1 - 3 oz sinkers and 5/0 - 6/0 hooks. The best bait for big cats is live bream. Stripers will hit them also. Just go to a lake or small pond and catch a few dozen. Shiners and shad also work good. You can buy shiners at any bait shop. You'll probably have to cast net the shad.

In Kansas the lake ice is gone use shad . the catfish have been feeding on dead shad sense the melt. find a lake with muddy - murky water. Also this is no joke if you can find green worms they work really well. at Perry lake Ks you have to dig your own.
