These definitions seem to be a bit at odds with each other....I believe that God created every thing, and still is, and is still here, but I don't believe that God is in complete and utter control of every little thing, and more like set a bunch of forces in motion, and allows some things to develop on thier own, without micromanaging, (but can intervene if asked for help in the right way, or for the right things, but doesn't meddle) is that a Deist? (Kind of like a mechanic building a machine, starting it up, and allowing it to run, but still there to tweak it, or fix it if need be, but some times it runs out of gas or needs an oil change.) But then I break this ultimate supreme being down in to different images of Gods and Goddesses for examination (polytheist)...but I consider them all different extensions of one ultimate supreme intelligence who doesn't micromanage (but uses these extensions to keep in touch with us, and help if need be .....am I both????(deist and polytheist) or just really confused?? My hand and fingers are extensions of me, but not my entire being, and i view the Gods and Goddesses in that respect, and us as well...hm....maybe I am just thinking aloud.....I just did a search, on Wikipedia. I havn't read the entire article, but it would seem from what I have read so far that there are as many points of view on Deism as any other school of spiritual thought, and some deists think we have been abandoned by God, while others think God is still interested, still wants us to behave morally, and still provides an afterlife for us, so I guess all of the above definitions of deism are valid.

Believes in some kind of divine power that does not act in today's world. Generally believed this divine power set off the creation of the world, something like winding a clock, and then let it go on its own. Deists consider that divinity can't be bothered with us now.
Thomas Jefferson, I understand, was a deist.

Deist believes that there is no existing god.
Some deists believe that god created earth then went away to let it handle itself
Others believe earth was created by spontaneous forces (not God) but that there is power in the universe bigger than any power humans have. (Not to be confused with a "supreme being" that has motives and intent)
Please don't spell a perfectly nice word like What that way!

I am a deist. I believe there is a God. I believe He was the big bang and then evolution took over. I know there is no proof of the existence of God.
It is not that He can't be bothered with us. He does not interfere with us here.
I am also a Gnostic. I believe in the desire for enlightenment and knowledge.

Deism is the beleif in God based on Reason, not revelation.
That's the simple definition. By revelation, I mean anything that claims to be "messages from God" such as holy books, and oral traditions of religions.
Most deists reject miracles, supernatural, and intervention of God. Not all reject these things though!!
Type "Deism" into wikipedia or a search engine, and you'll discover a religion based on Reason, not dogma!!!
