Absolutely! First thing tomorrow morning contact your nearest local Dept of Children and Family Services and apply for Medicaid. You may very easily qualify due to your being unemployed and this major and very necessary surgery. But don't stop there! Contact the hospital that your wife will be having the surgery and speak to a Patient Account Representative or better yet, the Business Office Manager that deals with self pay. Get a application for what is call 'charity'. Don't be prideful now, it isn't the time. Fill out the form and have it ready for them and then hand it in after the surgery...not much they can do until they have the charges, okay?

Do the same thing for the surgeons office, anesthesiologist, radiologist readings. These are all separate from the hospital bill; each provider charges separately--some will waive the fees even.

But go to the DCFS first thing tomorrow and be proactive about this. Last thing you guys need to worry about is the financial aspect, so if you can minimize it or eliminate it entirely that relieves a burden off of you and her. And you can focus on her getting better and healthy again.

Many prayers being sent your way, and many blessings!
