Heald is more expensive, and it is generally not transferable. So if you decide to change colleges, or transfer to a 4-year, your Heald classes aren't worth anything.

Community college may take longer, like 2 years vs. 18 months at Heald, but it is cheap enough that you can work your way through. And in the grand scheme of things, a few extra months isn't that much longer. And it is not just for transferring, there are certificate programs that are usually shorter than 2 years, and there are AA degrees that are better to have than a high school diploma alone.

Go to the community college, talk with the counselor and explain that you want to get your medical assisting certificate (not degree) as quickly as possible. Then, plan to take as many classes during the semester as you can. That's the trick Heald does - students go to school from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week. That's why you get done faster.

A medical assistant certificate shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 semesters, IF you take a full load, and at least five classes each semester.

Heald is a good program, but it's very expensive. You'll be in class just like a full time job. They'll train you on how to work in a doctor's office, including things like how to dress, how to talk to patients, etc. You can get this at the community college too, but you will probably have to ask for it.

You might also see if your area has a Regional Occupational Program (ROP) in medical assisting. This is very affordable and might be a good fit for you. You'll need to call your County Office of Education to find out.

Good luck!

They have different programs so first , you have to decide What your career goal is.
Heald is for people who want to be technicians.
Community college is for people who want to finish up at a university or state college with a bachelors to be a design engineer or biologist or chemist etc .
Heald does NOT have those programs.
Forget the time argument because that only relates if you are talking the same career type.
What kind of occupation are you seeking ?
