My heritage is mostly Polish and I was wondering what would be an easy way to start learning Polish just in case I ever studied abroad there or visited the country.

Hm, I find that the Teach Yourself series is good. You'll likely need the audio that goes along with it, as Polish is notorious for its spelling. Audio will help with that.
