it is healed by now, but if you put a bigger piece of jewelry in, you may have ripped the hole, which would re-open it; because it is stretched. it may have a chance of getting infected; it is best to keep your jewelry at the same gauge, or get your piercer to switch it to the larger jewelry for you. most piercers will change it at no extra charge if you are worried about changing it yourself.

It's most likely not infected, just irritated. Infection will be very red, hot to the touch and have green (not white or yellow) pus comming from it.
By bigger do you mean thicker or longer?
If it's longer - longer jewelry can get caught on more things, you may have caught it on clothing and irritated it.
If it's thicker - Thicker jewelry requires a taper to insert, doing so without you can tear the skin and cause irritation.
If those options don't seem likely, then it's probably the quaity of the jewelry. With the popularity of body pirecing, a lot of crap jewelry is on the market. Low quality steel, metals containing nickel and acrylics are just an example. If the jewelry was purchased from a costume jewelry shop at the mall, inferior jewelry is your most likely culprit. Make sure you know what your jewelry is made of before buying. Titanium and surgical grade steel are most common materials for good jewelry.
Try switching back to your origional jewelry for about 2 weeks and see if that helps clear it up.

If its bigger, that could be part of the problem. Inserting larger gauge jewelry can tear your piercing causing discomfort and pain. It could also be the type of material the jewelry was made from. Usually low quality jewelry will cause it or if you are just overly sensitive. Even if you are healed, you can have reactions to jewelry.
Nice piece of jewelry or not, take it out and put the old jewelry back in. Once its in, clean the area well and keep an eye on it to make sure problems don't get worse.

When you size up your piercings you can re-open the wound. Treat it like you did when it was new and keep it clean and it should heal up pretty fast. I have sized up from 14 ga. to 00 ga. with no problems, of course there where steps but the point is that it can be done. Just keep it clean and clean it on a regular basis.

While inserting the new jewelry or taking the old out you could have scratched it, or you could be allergic to the new jewelry. Take out the new piece just in case .Make sure that you keep the area clean.

yes it is very possible that it would become infected. a friend of mine changed her nipple ring and it was new and cleand and she ended up in the hospital with an infection. Her breast was very hot and swollen. She had to be on antibiotics and she lost her piercing. Its nothing to mess around with. Please get it checked out. You could also use some hydrogen peroxide on it to boil out the infection.
