I have 2 kittens who are almost a year old. I adopted them from the local shelter and I love them both very much. In the past they've gotten along pretty well but they've been fighting a lot lately and I'm not sure what's causing it. It actually seems to have gotten worse since I had them fixed.

The female, Kisa, gets jealous when anyone pets or cuddles with Dennis, the male, even if we've just played with her or are still petting her. There have been times recently when I'll come home and Dennis will run up to me for attention and Kisa will give me the death glare from her perch on the sofa.

Anytime someone gives them treats Kisa usually gobbles hers and tries to steal Dennis's treat before he can eat it.

They've been fighting a lot and knocking stuff over. They did this playfully in the past but lately there seems to be more animosity involved.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and what I can do to fix it?

They are at the stage where they are working the hierarchy arrangements. It sounds like the female is the dominant one but the little fella is not giving in gracefully. There will be a lot of hussle and tussle for a few weeks but eventually it will stop as soon as one or the other says, "Ok, I give up - you're the boss." It helps sometimes when you step in with loud hand clapping and hissing ("pssstttt") when the two cats are fighting - it tells them that YOU are the ALPHA cat. It also helps when you do not feed them together or when you do, to be there to watch... if one cat tries to steal from the other cat, say "psssttt" again. As the kittens mature, they'll come to realize that there is plenty of food to go around and that if one cat gets petted, it does not mean the petting will run out. Remember, kittens learn from experience. So when you pet or make much of one, make sure the other one gets some too.

The same thing happened with my cats. I got two kittens from the same liter and they got along famously at first, for quite a while actually. Then I moved and they were around other cats and they started to not get along as well. They didn't sleep together or play together and they would hiss at each other when one walked past the other. It was really upsetting at first since they had been so close. But, it's a lot like siblings. Once they start developing a personality and a voice, they don't always remain as close. They fight and knock things over and act like they hate each other and get really jealous. However, it will probably pass as they grow up and find their place in the family. My cats still aren't as close as they were as kittens, but they get along and as they get older they will probably come back around. Good luck with yours and give them some time to adapt!

i'm no longer attentive to the england/Australia opposition yet i'm able to assure you, opposition between Indian and Pakistani followers is many many situations better than England and Australia. Ah.. that's only too plenty! I in specific situations get to be certain the main hilarious bashing by employing the two a variety of countries followers' on one yet another.
