I have a cup in my bathroom that I use for washing my mouth out at night and I was wondering that if I kept it facing down (that is, the top touching the sink) if it would allow less bacteria to grow inside. I wash it throughly every five days, but which one will be better for a bacteria-free environment, cup normal or cup upside down?

Firstly, a cup is for drinking coffee, tea, etc and is kept in the kitchen. Get a glass in stead. Be cautious of the cloth you use for "washing" your mouth as we normally "brush only our teeth" before retiring to bed. Lastly, wash your "glass" after each useage and not just every 5 days. Thanks for this bit of humour.

Do what I did....get some Dixie cups and a dispenser. The dispenser keeps the cups covered until you're ready to use one, and you get a clean cup every time. A lot more sanitary than keeping a cup in there all the time, and not very expensive. The cups are dirt cheap, and even the dispenser just costs about six bucks.

Turning the cup upside-down allows it to drain completely and dry out. Germs need a moist environment in which to grow, and leaving the cup right-side up retains left-over water. Ergo, the best solution is obvious - turn your cup over!
