I think you can believe in God and not the Bible. I personally don't believe in either but that's me. The first part of the bible is stories that were passed down by mouth for thousands of years. Now most people have played that game where you sit in a circle an whisper something in one person's ear, and by the time it gets to the end it is something different. Same thing goes for the bible. Whilst the basics may still be there the how's, when's and who's may have changed. Much like myth and legend from other culture.
The second part of the bible - the life and death of Jesus, was written 400 years after the event. The fact that they have Mark's version, and Peter's version in the bible shows that even those closest to Jesus could not agree on every fact of his life. The gospels were edited to suit the times.
There are just too many unanswerable questions raised by the bible. And not enough evidence to back it up.
So you can believe in God, and you can believe in the general message that the Bible gives - you can even live your life by the ten commandments. But that doesn't mean that you have to believe everything you read.
If you are someone who believes everything you read - God has ask me to collect $100 from each of his followers for the general betterment of the world.

You lead a deistic life, but that's sort of a contradiction where you believe in God (which is basically introduced and evaluated in the Bible) but you don't believe in the book. I would say you feel like this because you take into account all of the various translations and re-tellings and "editings" that were done on the Bible throughout its entire history, as well as the fact that many Christians can't even agree on when it was written, which can determine whether or not the information can be accepted as valid in their community.
I've always been told by those people who I've asked this question to that you just have to rely on "faith" because if you focus on the little things, they'll make you ask too many questions and therefore be confused and lost. But...if humans are fallible, yet still controlled by divine light (God) to write the truth of the world, couldn't it be possible, if not plausible, that one of the penholders decided "Oh, well, I don't like that part, let me just leave that out..."
Good ultimatum: Believe in the fact that the Bible is incontestably true or you're a nonbeliever. Hmm

the point is not to seek scientific and historical fact in the bible... that's just absurd. the bible is a presentation of the spiritual journey and beliefs of a people covering hundreds of years... the better question would be: "what is meaningfull here?"
find a community that allows you to ask and struggle with questions of faith. I'm sick of people with "answers"... don't waste your time watching documentaries that show "the truth of the Ark!" or "Expedition to Eden".
if you are up for it, read "systematic theology Vol III" by Paul Tillich(although you might want to start at Vol I)... there is a lot of good stuff in there about the bible, and truth, existence, evil, etc... nothing that anyone would ever call easy reading, or easy answers, but it is a GREAT answer to fundamentalism while at the same tiime affirming a christian faith.

i think the Bible teaches us a thank you to stay a life it somewhat is powerful by employing showing us the previous. human beings learn from journey, and this e book has a variety of journey in it. regrettably human beings look to take it so actually and forget approximately that it grow to be a compilation of books from 1000's of years in the past. The rules have replaced in 2,000 years and so has the lifestyle. human beings say, "nicely in case you suspect interior the Bible then why do no longer you stone your infants?" it somewhat is only ridiculous and why do they think of for a minute that's what we learn from the Bible? as some distance using fact the evidence, that's in my life and that i do no longer would desire to coach it to absolutely everyone. If somebody desires to comprehend why i'm chuffed and at peace then i will tell them that's using daddy the Son and the Holy Spirit, and in case you pick a similar then examine into the Bible, it fairly is an incredible place to start. GOD BLESS!!

One of my favorite scripture is John 1:1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. There is more proof that the bible is true than false

The more evidence is collected, the less belief is required. Ultimately, the evidence amounts to proof. Proof completely removes the need for belief.
Belief is required to fill the gap between evidence and proof. For example, say there is 99.999999999% evidence that evolution is true. (There is not 100%, and there never can be 100% in science because science requires that any idea can be disproven/replaced by a better idea.) That means you need to add the 0.0000000001% belief required.
So, we all believe in stuff. It's a question of how much belief we have to add. In religion, we have to add loads of belief because there is very little evidence.
Therefore, in answer to your question, people believe this stuff because, in the absence of sizeable evidence, they HAVE to believe it, or completely reject it.

When I was born of God, I was anointed with the spirit of Truth that leads into all truth. And, the Holy Spirit enlightens scripture out of the Holy Bible and answers questions about God in the Holy Bible.
The anointing confirms of the Bible Truth.
