The common cold is caused by a virus. There is no cure for it and no way to completely prevent it. However, if you want to try and prevent it, wash your hands frequently and take the product called AirBorne for an immunity boost.

This is what I've done when I feel like I'm about to get sick:
I get myself some oranges, lemons, honey, some kind of tea, and just in case, I get a cough medicine if my natural stuff doesn't work. (Night time formula, and daytime formula just in case)
I make fresh OJ with the oranges, eat a whole lemon (half by half) with honey (to mask the bitterness) or make fresh lemon tea with the lemons and sweeten it with the honey.
The orange juice/oranges is for Vitamin C to boost up my energy and help out my immune system be able to fight. And the citrus in the Lemon is to kill any bacteria I may have.
Making it into a tea really helps though because if you feel like your nose is getting a little weird, the steam from the tea is really refreshing and can help you get rid of the funny feeling before it turns into full blown sniffles.
With these things, I also REST. Rest is VERY IMPORTANT. You need to just lay around and then get plenty of sleep. Or hell, just go to sleep early if you can. That way with the extra energy from the Vitamin C from the oranges (or if you take a Vitamin C tab or supplement)- your body isn't wasting that needed energy on walking around the house doing stupidness, but instead focusing on killing the germy invaders before it turns into an all out war.
If I still feel like crap by bedtime, I take a dose of that cough syrup I bought. Last time I was sick (three years ago) I bought Tylenol Cold & Flu Severe. I've learned that they've since discontinued that one though, and they now have a Tylenol Cough & Cold Severe, which works like a charm. Seriously, I took that before bed and I woke up feeling brand new. (There's a daytime & night time formula, so you can take it to keep you resting and then in the daytime to help you out in the morning)
And then in the morning if you still feel a little twang of the germies, take the daytime cough syrup with the OJ and bring along the lemon to make yourself some tea. Or just buy some Lemon Tea. Bigelow makes a pretty dam good Lemon Lift.
Hope you get rid of the germs before ya get sick though, and I hope any of my tips helped.
Take it easy,
miR :)
Oh yeah, I forgot... If you're not into the manual labor part of getting the oranges and making yourself some juice... You can just go to the store and buy the Vitamin C.. Or .. EMERGEN-C is essentially a mid-high dose of vitamin C in a powder form that you can add to a bottle of Aquafina or something and take that with you for the day.
Personally I like the tea. But the EMERGEN-C is a good add on.
Also AIRBORNE ... I've tried that and found it to work as well, if taken at the first sign of the yuckies...
Oh and THERA-FLU. Each of these can be purchased from a drug store... Walgreens... Wally's World... Whatever you have... Rite Aid...
The Thera-Flu comes in Night/Day formulas as well, but it's more of a treatment rather than a preventative measure.
Oh and please stay warm and try not to over exert yourself. Allow your body the extra energy to fight away the germs before it turns into a bloody cold..
My mother always told me to gargle with salt water. If you can't bear that thought... you can try one of the other things I said up there haha good luck :)

You can't, the virus was dormant in your system 20 days before the symptoms started, however you can prevent the virus from further replicating by getting plenty of rest and Vitamin C. (Note viruses are non-living they cant be "killed" but can be rendered inactive, destroyed would be the proper term)

Gargle some salt water, drink plenty of fluids and don't over exert yourself. I must say this same thing happended to me about a month ago, and I ended up with a cold anyway. The salt warter and salt did help me fight it off though. There has been a lot of this stuff going on lately. I wonder why? Keep me posted, thanks and let me know how you feel, if you get time.

I have traveled all over the world, many times and getting sick during your vacation or whatever the occasion, always worries me. I learned, never to leave without my Zinc lozenges. As soon as I feel like a cold or sore throat is coming on, I immediately take a Zinc. Use them as prescribed. They either check the problem or shortens it, a bunch. Remember, as soon as you feel that something coming on. Don't hesitate.
Good Luck,
George

For $20, you can buy something called Cold FX that is suppose to actually work according to some recent studies, but go out and get it right away or else it may not work.

You can't really kill it, but Airborne, Zicam, or Cold Eeze (zinc losenges) will reduce the severity and duration. Get some and take it now. Vitamin C will help too.

you cannot kill a cold because it is a virus. what you can do is make it less powerful and shorter lived. Drink a lot of orange juice (for vitamin C) try to exercise if you don't already because that will help bolster your immune system.

Use a nasal saline rinse. You can get them at the drug store, or make your own by adding a quarter tsp. salt to a glass of warm water. Sniff some from the palm of your hand or a tablespoon. It will sting, but it kills bacteria.
