I know this sounds strange, but I actually know some people who prefer thier toast that way. I think they put those higher settings for frozen items - like waffles or toaster streudel which would require higher temperatures to cook than bread.

it's for the busy ones. have you ever wondered why sometimes you have to set the toaster up? well when your toaster is old and you don't always clean it you find yourself turning up the setting. you eventually reach the end and you either snap to clean it or you get a small fire. sometimes you shake and yell at it and that does help because toast crumbs fall out and it will work for a while again. but yes sorry to say i have reached the end of the setting. and i know better now.

How fresh is your bread, how thick are the slices ?i buy my bread from different bakers because i find the taste differs & i relish the difference,so these settings come in handy.Higher temperatures do for frozen stuff as well .The range of temperatures is there for your convience,it is helpful to turn it back to the one you normally use,in case it has been changed, but then it is also difficult to be that careful & when you are not,Burnt Toaste is the result.

My father prefers his toast to resemble charcoal. That's also how he likes his beef cooked.
