I know that it is hard when people think badly of you, but as long as you know the truth, then don't worry about it. Yes, it is unhealthy for the dog to be overweight, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he is spoiled. Try controlling their food intake. The back of the dog food bag will tell u how much to feed the dog for his size. Feed it twice a day. Don't just leave food out. This will be very helpful.

Dog diets are much easier than human diets- you are in control of everything the eat. They only eat what you allow them to or give them.
I suggest starting him on a holistic food that has a diet line such as Inova, Canidae, Wellness, Nutromax, etc. Hollistic foods use better products with less fillers. Science Diet is NOT a holistic food- it is just pushed on vets a lot by the company. It contains corn- which they cant digest (as a filler)
Make sure you stick to the label on the back of the bag, according to their weight, and excercise/walk/run them a lot. If you arent a good runner try roller blading, they can move faster. Also sociallize them with other dogs a lot, they will play which not only gives you a break, but uses up a lot of their energy.
3 extra lbs on a dog is like 15 on a woman so it is a big deal when they are over a couple of pounds. Its pretty hard on their joints and depending on what age can really effect their temper.
Decrease the treats too - They are like ice cream cones for humans (they gain weight). Make sure you arent feeding them to him like food.

Tell your neighbor to get a life and mind his own bees wax. If you are worried about your dogs weight....put him on a low cal/diet dog food. Natural Balance is a great dog food. Make sure he gets plenty of exercise and no table scraps.

Don't worry about what your neighbors think of your dog... You know how you are treating your dog and thats all that matters. Let him call the animal police then they will come out and see that your dog is just fine!

well why is he fat?
it's not healthy to have an overweight dog - if it's from over eating, then it's fair to say he's spoiled. If it's from not enough excercise (if you're not walking him enough) then it can be said he's not being treated properly either ...
so maybe this is a good time for you to evaluate what needs to be changed in your dogs lifestyle.

Obesity is very bad for your dog's health. You should feed your dog good food and increase its exercise. Monitor the amount you feed your dog. Between feeding your dog less, and more exercise, your dog will lose weight and become healthier. If you love your dog you should really consider getting their weight under control so they live a longer, healthier life.

it is not healthy for an animal to be overweight just like it isnt for people to be and that may be why your neighbor sees it as abuse.
