Sometimes that happens, but not too often.
The first answerer says to see which is in line with Scripture, but sometimes both are. So you have to make a decision.
For example, your head tells you a certain job is the best one to take, or a certain course of studies, but your heart is not in it. Your heart wants something else.
In such a case, I pray about it for a few days, and then follow my heart. The few days gives time for my heart to change. During that time, I also analyze what my heart says in the light of what my head says. They can often come to a good agreement. LOL. In fact, soometimes there is a compromise, or a way of satisfying both.
EDIT:
I think A_blvr makes a good point. If I look to the source of what my heart says and the source of what my head says. For example, if the source of my feelings is anger, or self indulgence, then I should take another look at what my head is saying, and probably follow it.
As to those who say the heart only pumps blood - I think we all know that. It is a figurative way of referring to feeling versus analytical thought or rational thought. Both feeling and rational thought are forms of thinking, but wh think of the two as Heart and Mind, or Heart and Head.

An amassing subject, yes at times I wounder who are what is in charge of me. My mind is telling yes and a voice from within tells me no. But I am in charge I make the decision, but does that mean I will win or make the correct decision, I think I did and sometimes I know I did, but there is a difference in the two. I wounder sometimes has my body and brain been invaded and I am a mere host to another being. Crazy stuff no one has the knowledge of and maybe some of us resist more.

The heart doesn't think. It's all in the head. Mental stability means keeping a balance between thought and emotion. I don't let my emotions overrule reason.

Wow, that's a tough question. And one I am probably not too qualified for.....you can go wrong either way....it gets easier with time and experience though, to learn when you should let your head prevail, or your heart....
A_blvr: That is a really good way of putting it...

I'll tell you a secret. Both things being 'told' to you are coming from your head. Your heart is merely a muscle that pumps blood. It doesn't think, it doesn't have feelings, it doesn't tell you things. So in essense you are arguing with yourself.

All you have to do is find the source for both.
Where does your head get it's information?
Where does your heart get it's information?
