it depends on the person, and his/her pain tolerance, and whether your wisdom teeth are fully impacted. i had mine out on a tuesday, was eating regular food wednesday night, and was no longer in real pain by friday.
my sister had hers out, but her jaw got a hairline fracture, she was in a little more pain for a while longer.

The wisdom teeth have the smallest root of all teeth in your mouth. Most of the pain patients feel is from having their mouth stretched open so wide and for sooo long for the procedure. The teeth are just so far back that they are difficult for us to reach. Makes sense doesn't it?

Everybody has a different pain level but if you follow the dentist post op instructions to the letter, you will be up and running in 3 days easy. Take any medication that the dentist prescribes; also be sure to take your pain medication as soon as you leave the office. Take it while you’re still numb that way you can keep the pain down to a minimum as the anesthetic wears off. Also take Motrin or Advil to help with swelling and inflammation, take this about 2 hours after you take a pain med so it doesn't upset your stomach.

Be sure to do the warm salt water rinses the starting the second day, and do them as much as possible with a gentle swishing. Also the second day, start doing some jaw exercises by using two hot damp (ice the first 24 hours, then heat for swelling after) towels (heat them in the microwave) and placing them on each jaw, then open and close your mouth, stretching a little wider each time. This helps to get the blood flowing in the muscles and it helps you regain the full function of your mouth faster. We always advise our patients to do this exercise and most say it helped them tremendously. If you have any questions or need help with a problem, just send an e mail and I'll be more than happy to assist you. Remember what I said, small root, follow instructions and do exercises and you'll be fine in a couple of days.

Don't be afraid, almost everybody goes through this. If you feel any pain during the procedure, just raise your left hand and he will stop and administer more anesthetic. The dentist will do everything possible for you to have a "pain free procedure." Most of the discomfort is during the healing time for patients, not the procedure. You'll be fine if you follow the instructions, take the medications and do the jaw exercises I've explained. Good luck with your procedure and I hope I've been of some help.

I had mine out about 5 years ago right before Thanksgiving. I remember eating dinner that year, although it took a while to chew! Expect to have swollen cheeks and bruising for three to five days. But if you keep ice packs on your face during the first 36 hours, the swelling is minimal. I was back to normal within 7 days. Expect a funky taste in your mouth and be careful not to bite your lips or cheeks when they are numb as it can cause sores later. Good luck!

Everyone is different. It depends on your tolerance for pain, if your teeth are impacted or not, etc. I know of one young lady that it didn't bother at all - just like an ordinary trip to the dentist and another that had to take a few days to recoup. Good luck.

I had 4 pulled at 10:00 in the morning and was eating pizza at 5:00 for dinner. My mouth was never swollen and it really didn't hurt at all. Your Dentist will instruct you on what to expect so don't worry about it too much.

It took my kids 1 to 2 weeks. Absolutely do everything that the oral surgeon says. Eating normal food can be several weeks because you'll be told to avoid some foods. I hope that you have a good experience.
