You will be a little sore after you first get them on. Be sure to take some Ibuprofen (brand names Advil or Motrin) BEFORE your appointment so it has some time to be in your system (this works far better than Tylenol for dental discomfort). Most folks have some pain in the lip area too from rubbing against the unfamiliar metal but that will go away, the skin will get a little tougher and you won't even notice the metal brackets after a few days. Choose to eat soft foods for the rest of that day and probably the next day too, such as mac & cheese, jello, pudding, soup, etc. Any time you have more procedures done, such as adding the wire that goes between the metal brackets or having the wire tightened, there will be some more discomfort, so be ready with that Motrin! Any decent orthodontist will have a full packet of information about what to eat/not eat, how to take care of your teeth with braces on, what to do if there is something poking your gums (you will use a little piece of wax to smooth over the sharp piece) and samples of a toothbrush, wax, etc. Don't worry, you'll do fine! Millions of kids get braces, be very grateful that you can afford to do this. It will all be worth it when you have that beautiful smile! Good luck!
Oh, and pay close attention to the assistant when she tells you about brushing and flossing your teeth. You don't want to wear braces for two years, finally get them off then find yourself in the dentists chair getting ten fillings done because you didn't keep them clean enough and you got cavities!

Yeah, it'll hurt. The pain will go away as your teeth shift into the new position, and they'll hurt again each time the braces are tightened or realigned. Usually you can just take some Tylenol or Advil or something, and it will help a lot. And when you're done, you'll have a beautiful smile!

To actually GET them on it does not hurt it hurts after words for about 2 days to a week. It hurts a little when you get them tightened, also. The younger you are the more painful it is. I am 11 almost 12 and it hurts a lot for me when I get them tightend. But hey no pain no gain right?

Well, when youre getting them on at the moment, no, it doesn't. The first week, it'll be pretty painful. trust me, you'll get used to it very soon. Just make sure you brush your teeth very well, and don't floss whith the string. i reccomend getting the Waterpik to floss, its much easier, and more effective. Eat normally, too. braces can cause a decrease in appetite.

it doesnt really hurt to get them put on. it is painful/sore for about 24-48 hours after they adjust them each month. eating soft foods and taking advil/tylenol/your favorite pain reliever always takes the pain away.
