Antibiotics can do a number on the GI system. Try getting your son to eat some yogurt (with live active cultures) at least 30 minutes before he has to take the antibiotic. This will help "strengthen" the stomach and intestinal lining. I have to do this anytime I am on an antibiotic and what I have my kids do as well to help prevent upset stomachs.
Common side effects of antibiotics include upset stomach, diarrhea, and, in women, vaginal yeast infections, though boys can get a yeast infection too.
Antibiotics can cause allergic reactions. Mild allergic reactions consist of an itchy rash or slight wheezing. Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can be life threatening and usually include swelling of the throat, inability to breathe, and low blood pressure.
If you are worried, call your doctor or after hours service, but I really do not see anything to worry about right now.
Hope your son feels better soon!

Vomiting is not an allergic reaction-just an intolerance to the medication. His stomach is just getting irritated. You should try giving it with food. An allergic reaction is a complex process that involves an immune system response. The first sign of it would be rash. The rash then progresses to swellling and difficulty breathing. I have seen people having a full blown allergic reactions. It is not pretty. Hives, puffy face, difficulty breathing ,and intense itching. If he vomits -little or no medication is absorbed, and immune system is not involved, therefore, most likely he is in no danger of developing an allergic reaction.

If it were a mild allergic reaction, he'd have hives on his skin, probably. They'd be all over, and likely itchy.
A more serious reaction would probably make it hard to breathe, or send him into shock. You'd definitely know that he was having a serious allergic reaction.
It doesn't sound like your little guy has a problem, but you might tell your doc the NEXT time he needs an antibiotic that amoxicillin seems hard on his tummy so he/she can try a different drug.

First off he would be itching head to toe and his hands and feet would swell. Also his voice would change. I saw my husband get an allergic reaction to Ibuprofin. It was awful. You would know it right when you saw it. To be safe call your pharmacist.

Let me tell you that Allergic reaction can include JUST VOMITTING. My daughter was on omnicef and vomited soon after taking it every dosage. At first we thought she was just quezzy from being sick, but after two days and 4 vomitting cases, i stopped giving it to her for a day, and no vomit. Then the next day continued the dosage and it started again. After calling her doctor he said she must have a mild allergy to it and prescribed something else. So my advice would be to not give it to him for a day then start back up and see what happens.. if it stops when he's off and starts back up when you continue it call the doctor.

check for a rash or fever, if nothing them give medication again tomorrow if you have the same reaction again consult your doctor or pharacis, keep a close eye on him, behavior wise if you really feel unconfortable with it just stop giving it to him and get him into your doctor asap to see what they think you should do, better to be safe than sorry
