lol... reggae might better express your feelings than hip-hop. I'm glad you're doing it for a good reason.

Pick a style that fills your soul with praise for God. If you really want to glorify God, pick a style that you feel is the most pleasing to Him, and secondary to that is the style that you like. I WOULD add what other people like into that mix, but there are millions of people that either hate or love any type of music, so you really can't use that to help you choose. And remember to respect your parents wishes. They may be wrong in telling you not to sing Christian rap/hip-hop/gospel/rock/emo/whatever, but you still need to respect their wishes as long as you live with them. If you don't live with your parents, then respect your legal guardians or whoever you're living with.

Otherwise, I like Switchfoot, Relient K, Thousand Foot Crutch, KJ-52 (not as fun to sing to, but nice listening), Solomon's Wish, Todd Agnew, Third Day, Mark Schultz, Matthew West, FFH, and City On A Hill to name a few.

Then religious music.

I was (when a Christian) never drawn to reggae or hip-hop. I liked Michelle Thumes and other more reverent music. Then again, I'm much older than you anyway. I was around before Amy Grant, and remember Keith Green and that generation.

I especially like John Michael Talbott.

If you sincerely want to glorify God and not just be a people pleaser, ask yourself if God can direct you to the kind of music that does glorify Him.

Many older believers feel that the music younge people sing is just repetitious one line over and over with no real enlightening message. When you feel at peace, real peace with what you choose, you will know it.

You should sing what you feel.

Don't sing some particular genre because it's cool or you just like it just to listen to... you have to feel the music you make.

Sing for G-d?
Sing your prayers. Sing whatever is on your heart. He doesn't care what style you use, so long as you communicate with Him!
