Both are good. My experience with Glocks is that the polymer frame absorbs a lot of the recoil. My Glock Model 20 with service .10mm ammo has less muzzle flip than my friend's 1911 .45acp with practice ammo. The .10mm is a magnum class cartridge and is 'hotter' than the .45acp so that should give you an idea. I don't find that the .45acp has a significant 'kick,' or recoil, but that may not be the case for everyone. Just pick the one you like better. If you think the recoil is too severe, experiment with ammo. Try the Federal Personal Defense load which are advertised as 'low-recoil.' If worse comes to worse, then trade for a smaller caliber. I'm sure you can find a gun shop that would accept your .45 in trade on a .9mm or .40acp or .380 or... Whatever you are more comfortable with.

Best.

This is strictly a matter of personal preference and price with the XD being slightly cheaper. I like them both but shoot the XD a tad better.

Felt recoil is a subjective thing and since the two pistols (well you didn't mention exactly which model of Glock) are similar in weight and the height of the barrel above center, the recoil will be very much the same to most people. But the best bet is for you to shoot them both yourself if at all possible and do a side by side comparison.

Good luck.

the xd points better, and is more comfortable in the hand. on the other hand, the glock has a better finish (tennifer) and has parts available for sale. if the xd breaks, you have to send it back to springfield, although theyd fix it for free (lifetime warranty), its not good if it would be your only gun.

You'll be extremely happy with the XD! Ive fired both many times and the XD is def more accurate and easier to handle.
