For a hunting rifle Browning make a BAR priced between 700 and a 1000. Remington makes one to, should be around 700. Nothing else come to mind.
If you are looking for surplus ther is always the M1 grand.

Jon is correct about the Browning and Remington. The only other model that comes to mind just now is the Garand, but that is closer to $2,000+ so shop around.

Also check on the Benelli. They now make a slick looking semiauto rifle.
