I have been dating this girl for over a year and in june I will be moving to where she is. We've been talking about marriage and I am thinking about proposing, what is a womans best or highly favored cut for a 2 carat diamond?

If you're uncertain, take her to pick it out.

I personally prefer square cuts but many women don't. The bridal industry has said over the years that it must be a round brilliant per all the jewelry ads in magazines and at jewelry shops.

My father was a gemologist until the last year or so, so I have seen more gems than the average person on the street has or ever will. Based on what I have seen, and talking to others in the industry, the princess cut is actually alot sparklier than the round brilliant.

But in the end, it boils down to personal preference.

The thing women look for most is the sparkle. The two cuts that give off the best sparkle is a round cut and a princess cut. As you can tell a round cut is a circle shape. The princess cut is a perfect square. She can even have it tilted sideways to look like the shape of a diamond. The reason why these two have so much shine is because of the possibilities of angles at which the light can hit it. A round diamond has endless possibilities. It actually sparkles more than the princess, but most women want something that LOOKS like a diamond (that's where the princess cut comes in). Make sure you test for clarity, too. 2 carats is pretty big, and if it has low clarity, you may be able to see the imperfections with the naked eye. When you go to a jewelry shop, they'll tell you about the 4 C's (cut, clarity, carat, and color). I've included a link that may help you out. Good luck!

I really think it depends on the lady...but I like the princess cut. (It's more of a square cut.)

My dream ring is a princess cut diamond, with many smaller diamonds on the ring band....

i'm sure whatever ring you pick out for her, will blow her away. remember, its not the ring that matters, but what it stands for, and the fact that is coming from you.

good luck :)

i dont really know, but I think it would be really cute if you get it cut into a heart. Then you could tell her something like you didnt want her having just any wedding ring, but a special one because she stole your heart. Well, say something better then that but thats just an idea. then have little diamonds on each side getting bigger.

It is so much of the cut, but just make sure it doesn't have any "INCLUSIONS" or at least not to many.

Ask the Jeweler to let you borrow his glass piece.

Definately the classic round. It has more facets than any other cut so it shines more than any other.
