I just saw Kingdom of Heaven and thought it was well done with a good message at the end of the film.

I'm not sure if you are looking for a documentary or what but the Passion of the Christ is good, kind of Hollywood.
End of The Spear- about the Saints, missionaries to a South American country.
Amazing Grace- about a Christian abolitionist in England.
THE ROBE- it's old but awesome and really powerful!
Left Behind- is also good!

Heaven Help Us, not exactly about religion but it is about the goings on and some of the mischief if a catholic boys school in the 50s or 60s.

Dogma
Defending Your Life
The Ten Commandments
It's a Wonderful Life
The Meaning of Life

All wonderfully enjoyable fantasies.

And, of course, the best ever - Time Bandits! Ralph Richardson as the Supreme Being and David Warner as Evil.

"something to do with free will..."

Indeed!

Noone has mentioned Spartacus. This is a very good film as well. Not about religion in general but it is an awesome story about Christian slaves.

I don't know that i've seen one that gives an accurate description. Movies involve the directors opinion too much. Stick to the scriptures.
