New Dog Tricks?

What are some fun tricks to teach my dog? She knows sit, down, shake, stay, come, and we are working on sit pretty and roll over. What are some new tricks I can teach her?

A cool trick is to put a piece of food on your dog's nose, have the dog let it stay there until you give the command, at which point it flips the food up and catches it in its mouth. Sounds complicated but it's not hard if you work at it.

Start with your dog in the sitting position. Place a small piece of food on her nose while gently holding her muzzle so that the food doesn't fall off.

After a couple seconds, let go of her muzzle. As the dog tries to catch the treat, say the command "Catch!". If she misses and the food falls to the ground, pick it up and give it a smalll toss into the air and again say "Catch!"

Give her lots of praise any time she catches the food... even if she didn't do it on her own.

Have her go into the sitting position again and repeat. Keep working on it a little every day and you'll be able to amaze your friends with that trick!

I taught my Lab mix to retrieve various items. I started with teaching him to pickup an item off the floor while teaching the name or word for the item and gradually increased the distance. After 6 months he can now retrieve items from upstairs.

I taught my Pug Panda to play dead....I hold my fingers in a gun postion and say bang! She drops to the floor and rolls on her back....and gets a treat! She loves to give "high fives" also.
