Because they are human. Most humans do lie. A lot. even to themselves. Of course many a lie is provoked only because the other part fears the reaction if they'll tell the truth. In my experience, being reasonable prevents others from lying to you :)

Assuming you are talking about lies related to relationships (lying about not cheating etc) and not lies related other acts of dishonesty

I bet men that lie about such things actually subconsciously rachet up the "chemistry" for you -even though you complain about it

In that case you have to understand the nature of man's early development for 3 to 5 million years where certain traits were superior in terms of genetic survival for males

Deception, along with controlling behavior and wide scale seed spreading (cheating in modern parlance) were key survival skills, increasing a males genetic survival odds going forward -and in turn females genetic prospects who mated with such men

So as the prior poster said "genes" are why
men lie, however its part of their DNA and part of women's DNA (a legacy of evolution) to be attracted to such males

Monogamous, noncontrolling, honest nice guys bore most women to death - which is quite logical as they cannot offer the illusive promise of genetic immortality
