I Have a problem, a HUGE problem. Im in college and have few friends because of SA - Social Anxiety...

I don't look shy, infact I look like one of the popular kids who is outgoing and speaks for her mind...but that's not the case. The thing is that Everytime someone holds a conversation with me I start to feel tense and feel negativity...so I actually frown my face. This turns them off and then they stop conversing with me. What should I do, help?

Just take that frown & turn it upside down! Thos girls/people
are no better than you, if anything you're better than them! We
have to spruce that up with r negativity, so please allow me to
help 1st by going to the library and asking the women there the best seller of books on "self help" she will guide you in the
right direction & know the book you need. Less work for u & u
aren't sure of the right one. Just tell her you're shy &......and u need liturature on this. Once you've read it & realize how Special You really are, u will understand the ignorance of them. All the best to you Sweety & hang your head high!!!!

I have the same problem or so I've been told. Your anxiety is becoming evident on your face I guess and they may think you are closed off or a bit snobbish. You have to try to relax when they near you. I often shut down when more than one person is around and they are talking. I am working on overcoming that. I have to an extent. Do you like yourself at all? I never did. I find once I do, I become a little less anxious. Not much, but I try to. If you ever want someone to talk to you can email me. Just go to profile page. I'm always on. I'm in college too and have very few friends. It sucks having social anxiety doesn't it?

When you start to feel tense, tell the person you are speaking to. This may seem opposite to what you want, but if you don't explain your behaviour, the other people will make their own ideas (incorrectly).

Telling them you have SA (or just that you are tense) and that's why you frown gives them an excuse to talk to you more, and overlook the behaviour.

Next, when you notice yourself frowning, take a very deep breath, then smile.
