I really want a tattoo and have known what I want for a couple of years. However, the only thing stopping me is the image of a faded, blurry tattoo. If you've had your tattoo for 5-10 years, how has it held up to how it first looked when you got it?

A friend & one of the bellydancers in my town has a tattoo that's on the order of 20 years old (might be a little older). I've seen pictures of her from the early days of dancing, and the tattoo looks pretty much the same. It's in an area that doesn't see sun, and she's pretty careful anyhow.

She also has a ring tattoo around one of her fingers, and needed to get that touched up recently. Obviously that saw some sun, so above & beyond the normal wear & tear on the hands it had a rough "life". It still didn't look that bad, and with a touchup you could hardly tell it was that old.

I have a 14 year old tattoo on my ankle. It still looks great. I always make sure to put sunblock on it or cover it if I am out in the sun. Taking care of a tattoo will help it age well.

tattoos absolutely CAN age well. it all depends on how well you take care of them. i recently met a lady at a convention who was tattooed and published in a magazine over 15 years ago (i just got the book that she was in) and her tattoos look great. of course her skin is older but her tattoos are not faded or gross looking at all. the key is to keep your tattoos out of the sun! don't let them get exposure. sunscreen does not protect the ink from the damaging rays of the sun. if you protect your skin and ink your tattoos can look fresh and new for years and years.

I've had my oldest tattoo since 1998, ankle band and celtic heart on side. It looks the same now as it did then, and that's with shaving and tons of sun exposure. I use moisturizers daily.

I got my first tat 7 or 8 years ago and it only faded alittle bit. It still looks nice but it needs a touch up on the color. For that you can apply coco butter and it will brighten right up or just go to a shop and they can brighten it. Some age well. Sometimes it depends on who does it and how good of a tat they give you. Most times they stay pretty good. One hint, Sometimes when you have one on your stomach they can tend to strech out if you ever want children. But other than that all tat do pretty well with time. Best of luck, peace.

My ten year old tattoos are very, very slightly fuzzier than they originally were, but it's nothing significant; they still look absolutely fine.

I've had mine 14 years, it still looks exactly the same, no fading or blurriness... I'm very happy with it and plan to get another for my 33rd b-day!
Good luck!

when you get a tatoo they don't blur in old age but do strech and become bad looking
