Nuclear power plant do not release greenhouse gasses.
They do not require mined coal or oil, which are needed in such large quantity in the case of fossil fuel power plant that transportation becomes an issue, and restrict the location where the power plant can be located.
Of course, nuclear also has its shortcomings; but overall, if done properly, nuclear might be a better solution than several other.

besides pollution/global warming, nuclear plants do not have a continuous line of trains delivering coal. trains pollute and involve fatalities at grade crossings. Nuclear power plants have zero radioactive emission, where as coal plants have significant radioactive emission. The smoke plume from coal plants is tracked for environmental purposes with geiger counters.
