Safely? 8 hours X 60 miles = 480 miles If you're sharing the driving with one other person, maybe 720-800. Check the weather before you go.

Hey Puk, you need to check your facts. According to to the D.O.T. a truck driver can drive 11 hours before taking a 10 hour break. The old rule was 10, but new laws went into effect a little over 3 years ago.
As far as how many miles you can safely do in a day, a normal day for me is 600 to 700 miles a day. For someone who does not drive for a living, this would be very tireing for them. Don't try to outdo yourself. If you get tired stop and take you a little 30 minute to an hour nap. Believe me, a nap can do wonders.

10 to 12 hours (with breaks scattered throughout) is probably as long as is safe for most people - you could drive longer, but your concentration will be dropping fast by that time. Assuming an average speed of 60 mph (a pretty fast trip if you include gas stops, breaks, etc in that average) you'll do around 600 to 700 miles. Of course, this assumes no traffic, no construction zones...you get the idea.

A very old thread I know, but IMO I say 500-550 miles a day is a good safe pace. Now can you push yourself and drive further? Sure, but trust me your body and mood will suffer. Consider your body and the safety of those in your car and others around you while doing the long distance thing

1,000 miles per day is a good ideal; I drove from Pennsylvania to Texas (1800+ miles) in a two day stint.
