Here is the breakdown of why it is a bad idea to have a drink right now:

Darvocet contains an anti-inflammatory component, and drinking alcohol if you have 4 or more in 24 hours can give you a stomach ulcer or cause gastrointestinal bleeding. Do it often enough and your liver will give you paybacks.

The narcotic component in Darvocet (propoxyphene) is probably not strong enough to cause you to wake up flat on your face with your teeth knocked out, but why chance it? You probably have some really nice pearly white front teeth and I bet you want to keep them.

A better idea is to take your next dose and go to bed for the night.

the reason the bottle says not drink while taking this medication means dont drink, before, during or after this medication.
This medication works on the CNS. It depresses it. Alcohol is also a CNS, combining these two items together could really decrease your Central Nervous System, drowiness is likely to occur, amoung other undisireable effects. If the CNS is depressed to much, the body's natural response to breath may be compromised. Which simply means, you could forget to breath, and I am guessing you are not wanting that to happen.
I am not sure why you were prescribed darvocet in the first place, but, I bet your MD dont want you to drink if you are in moderate pain, for which darvocet is prescribed for.
I hope you take this into consideration before you drink an Alcoholic beverage. Good luck.

When they say don't mix drugs and alcohol that is exactly what they mean. Darvocet is a long acting medication and does not mix well with alcohol. I would not suggest mixing the two of them anytime. This is just not a good combination. If you must drink, then do one or the other but not both!!! I do hope you are feeling better soon but I don't think that alcohol is going to be the answer.
God Bless!!!

Noooo. just don't do it. it always takes at least 24 hrs. to get any meds out of your system and any pharmacist or dr. would tell you not to mix narcotics with alcohol. everyone is different and you don't really know how your nervous system would react.
It's always better to be safe than sorry. Next time you are planning to have some drinks, don't take the darvocet that day, you know, just plan it out better.
