I got the puppy yesterday he is 8 weeks old, and seems to be doing fine.

Except everytime he has a bowel movement it comes shooting out all runny! And I do mean shooting out!!!!! Do you think it is just the change in food or possibly nerves from being in a new enviroment? Or something more seriously health related....?

Thanks in advance for your input.

It could be a number of reasons that your puppy has diarrhea. Sometimes it has to do with what type food you are feeding it. Wet, or canned, food will usually upset a puppy's stomach. Any change in food, such as brand, etc. Also, worms can cause a puppy to have diarrhea. Your best bet would to have a vet examine the puppy. Also, if the puppy has parvo, he will have diarrhea. If he is having diarrhea during each bowel movement, he could also be suffering from dehydration. Please have him checked.

Its fairly common for new puppies to have some digestive issues ie)nasty runny messes!!!! when first brought into the home.
The change of food will most definitly do it and its always good to slowly put dogs of any age onto a new brand of food slowly by mixing old and new until its all new - so I would find out what your breeder or pet store was feeding him and work from that. Its also important to stick to better brands of food such as Eagle Pack or NutriScience (check out petsmart they can help with your exact breed) If he is fairly new to hard food or something like ceasars soft, than it might just take a little longer to find a food he likes and that agrees with him.
Nerves also contribute so when he is eating try to keep him calmer for about a half hour and his digestive system can work more slowly rather than having him run around etc.
I would only think that it was a health problem if it lasts for too long, you can always check with your breeder and they should inform you of any previous problems. If your really nervous make a run to your vet, but until then make sure you keep him really hydrated.

These are all things that my breeder and my vet went over with me.

A change in diet can most definitely cause this reaction. The new environment as well can play a large part too. I wouldn't worry just yet. Let him settle in and get use to you and his new diet and environment. Do not change his diet again if at all possible (unless upgrading from a puppy to a dog formula when he gets older) Make sure that he is getting lots of fluids and if it continues for more than a week I would consult your vet. Good luck!

Could be any number of things, but the most common causes are worms and change in diet.

You should feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice, with no seasonings or fat or skin mixed in, and that will help with the diarrhea. Once the diarrhea clears up, you can slowly transition him back to his regular food.

You should also have him dewormed, and have the vet check a stool sample in case he has a parasite that the broad spectrum dewormers do not kill (such as coccidia).

However, if he begins vomiting as well or if the diarrhea does not clear up, then it could be a more serious disease and you should have him seen ASAP.

Puppies are babies, you know! They need some adjustment time just like all new pets. He may be too young for canned food, so if that is what he is eating, it doesn't agree with him. Or try giving him more dry food instead of what he is now getting. It's a good idea to take a new puppy to your Vet for a check up in case of health problems that you may not notice. Give him time to get used to his new home and have fun training him. Be patient and "this too shall pass".

Diarrhea is not a disease in itself, but is an easily recognized symptom of a problem within the intestinal system. Diarrhea is a "catch-all" term for a number of changes that can be seen in bowel movements. These changes can include one or more of the following:

An increase in frequency of defecation.

Changes in fluid content of the stools (sometimes causing a loose consistency).

Changes in the volume of feces produced. This change can include increased water content and the presence of undigested dietary fiber or unabsorbed nutrients in the stool.

An owner may notice a variety of changes in the appearance of their dog's stool during a bout of diarrhea. Stools may be of a soft, unformed consistency, may be watery, may contain mucus or blood and the color of the stool can range from brown, to yellow, to black, to green, to gray or bright red. The stool may be very smelly or normally smelly or may have little or no odor at all. It's important to note that the stool can still be formed and may not always appear soft or loose. A dog with diarrhea may also have bad breath, flatulence, abdominal pain, bloating and grumbling guts (intestinal bubbling due to excessive gas).

If you changed his food from what the breeder was feed him than yes it could be the cause of the runs. also the new home and everything else. If it doesn't seem to slow down by tomorrow a quick trip to the vets to check for worms and get your pup some meds for the problem.

Change in food and possibly whipworm (which causes diarrhea). When I first got one of my dogs he had the runs. It was a different food he was used to eating and when I took him in to the vet they said it was whipworm. Gave him some medicine to pour over his food for 3 days and it was all cleared up.
