i have the same problem as you, i usually stay awake all day or go to bed at about 8am on weekends, and go to bed at about 5am on weekdays.
try doing something that will make you tired during the day. go for a long run, exercise, play a sport or something
dont take any naps during the day- theyll throw you COMPLETELY off schedule, trust me..
also, do everything you need to get done during the day. dont leave yourself anything to do during the night- or youll end up staying up even later. that way, you can even bore yourself to sleep.
when it comes time for bed, TURN EVERYTHING OFF. the lights, the tv, the music (unless its something that helps you fall asleep), even the light from the computer. being in the dark helps a lot.
and make youre bed look and feel really comfy :] then, once youre in bed, you wont wanna get up for anything. lol.. it helps.
i know how much of a burden insomnia can be.. i really hope i helped you out =] good luck!

I used to have this problem....a main thing I noticed is my sleeping habits, activity levels, and stress. Dont take naps in the day or it will throw off your sleep...try to go to bed and wake up at or around the same time every day and don't sleep too long but get enough sleep that you dont need a nap. Next, if you exercise in the day your body will be tired and you will probably sleep easier and better. Dont try to think about anything before you go to sleep, I stress out a lot so this is a big problem for me. ..I can be so tired but my thoughts and problems keep my awake. If that happens to you try writing in a journal or talking to someone about it, praying etc. That is the most I can help you with, good luck!

What kind of work? Sitting around is not work. Work that involves physical exertion(like to give you a sweat) now that is work. And alot of it.
Similiar to "playing all day as a kid - running, jumping, playing tag, jumprope" - those kind of things is similiar to work....in that your heart is beating faster for extended periods....and you got some fresh air as well.
You will sleep. No drugs needed.
Also stay away from caffiene-hot chocolate, coffee, black tea especially after 6 pm(basically any liquids after 6 will have you up 3 in the morning with a full bladder). Also any sugary foods after 6. These things will really mess with a good nights sleep.

I have some periods of time where I couldn't sleep for a string of days because I was worrying about something, stressed out, etc. But I suggest you change rooms and sleep in a different bed, or get a blindfold so if you keep opening your eyes at least it still dark. Try sleeping naked as well, it could help, refer to my sources.

I've suffered from insomnia for years and had to go Ambien to help me sleep. Got to the point I was AFRAID to go to bed. I'm no longer on Ambien but I take unisom and benedryl; which usually helps; still there are nights that I just toss and turn. Lunesta is also good. You'll have to talk to your Dr.

I have heard that the scent of lavendar helps people fall asleep. I don't think it works very well though because I tried it and it didn't work. I usually take trazadone to help me sleep if I need something. Are you depressed. Sometimes people with depression have insomnia. Go see your doctor.

I have to quit drinking all caffeine at noon. It bites because I have to drink water for the rest of the day. Turning the TV off in the bedroom helps too

Hm.. thats a toughy. I read in a book that if you lay flat on your back in your bed, and take deep breaths and start to relaxe every muscle in your body it helps. Start at your toes and don't move. (Of course you can breathe!) Just relaxe your toes, legs, calves, stomache, arms, chest, head, and just lay there taking deep breaths. It always helps! Good luck!
